Lack of enforcment....complete joke

First of all, I want to say that all in all I support every aspect of the RCMP and for the most part what they do for our communities.
This has more to do with the marine division than anything and the complete lack of enforcment with regards to the Illegal Charter activity/ Transport canada regulations that were supposed to be enforced this past summer.
I for one was led blindly through the e-mails and and fell entirely into what I was supposed to believe was a new set of guidelines that was to be regulated and enforced.
I sent enough e-mails and made to many phone calls to just about everyone involved and in the end what i got was what I should of expected and was told by many what was going to happen...Nothing!
My complete lack of judgement in following what i believed was a great and noble cause basically caused me nothing but grief and anomousity between myself and other guides.
I was also met with many an RCMP officer who had no idea what to enforce and how....
To make matters worse and what feels like a complete slap in the face was this......the photo below represents just one of the numerous times I saw RCMP fishing while illegal activity was happening all around them...
I'm just not sure as to what the next steps are in the process but I can tell you one thing for sure....
RCMP and Transport Canada can count me out of any more support for any such programs. Yes, I will continue to go through the process to make sure my vessels are in compliance for my clients safety.
In the end these comments are my owe and my personal views.
I think that in the end fun fishing over enforcement should never be an option on a government vessel no matter who's day's off it is and what day of the week...

That whole group in that photo should be fired. Should send that photo to some of the local news stations along with your story.

Someone check them for licenses [:o)]

This wasn't just once people....numerous times.
I even saw the boat being pulled out of the water beside a potentially non compliant operator that was reported numerous times from what I can recall and the operator was never checked and continued to operate throughout the summer.
Anyhow, I think that most of you can understand the level of frustration from both my end and the system itself and how unorganized and plain screwed up it is.

My feeling is that if they are off duty, fishing should be done on a private vessel. RCMP boats should be used only in the line of duty.
It just gives the public the wrong idea as to how their tax dollars are spent

THEIR BOATS HERE HAVE DOWNRIGGERS [:0]

Next thing maybe they will start chartering for some supplemental income - at least they have vessels that meet all requirements - hopefully!:D

This is such BS and we are not doing anything about it. Get the cameras out and start complaining. I don't want to be paying for their fishing trips, down riggers, gas, oh and licenses if they need them.

Pric_s....

Their jobs should all be on the line..Not our salmon...

Illegal chartering not being cracked down on is a serious issue that needs to be fixed. If i was up there getting under cut by some moron i would be mad if my complaints went unheard.

On the other hand them fishing for a bit off the boat? Does not seem like that big of deal. If your like fishassasin and are freaking out over something so minor you need to go fishing. I highly highly doubt tax dollars are buying downriggers, their fishing rods, licenses ect. My uncle always brings his rod when he is doing a tour on the CG ship. If theres a stop somewhere or free time he drops it down. If you really dont want your tax money to go to waste campaign against one of many stupid multi million dollar projects not some guy jigging in in off time.

WTF...Giving them a boat..Pay for the fuel and pay their wages.. Get real... Suspend or fire them all. Then they will have all the time to go fishing. And if you are as passive as some about this get off the pot. Give your head a shake. Wake up. I don't work and pay tax's to have them go fishing on my $..

I somewhat disagree kelly,

here are my reasons:

is it ok for dfo to fish in their "off-time" etc on gov't boats. There is wear and tear, etc.

Also, I don't agree that private companies should be allowed to go fishing on their company vehicles and then write-off the expenses as research/marketing/etc.

Either it should be fair for everyone to use their gov't vehicles / company vehicles for private use when not being used for the intent they are purchased for. I agree it doesn't seem to be a big deal until these costs start showing up for the business, gov't, etc and then are passed onto the consumer / taxpayer in higher costs for goods and taxes.

Being in the gov't previously, I have seen too much of this mis-use of funds, etc. I have also observed people using their company vehicles for towing 5th wheels, etc for people going on family vehicles. It gets frustrating if people are going to complain about gov't officials and then not get mad if it is a private company / bc hydro, etc.

Overall it just looks bad. It seems a waste at time to see these vehicles etc not being used or not being able to enjoy your "down-time" when away from home on these vehicles but we need one set of rules, not for some people / divisions and not others.

Sorry, it is just hits an emotional cord when you see these mis-use of funds and for some people in gov't it is "ok" but not for others. Just like if it is ok for the taxpayer to pay for flying MP's back and forth to ottawa with their wife and children, why as a gov't employee can't they do the same....seems there are different rules for everyone. In my opinion, not correct.

Oh well....i guess that is why I don't work for the gov't anymore...can't stand the various "rules and standards" depending on who you are.

Sorry for the rant....it's hard for me to stay on topic when emotional. BTW, this isn't a slag on you kelly, I just meant that I don't agree with the it's ok during their "time-off".

happy fishing everyone

The fellow up on the bow really isn't fishing! He is in fact, checking out the depth of the water to check that against his down rigger and the depth sounder. See there is an answer for everything if you just give it a little thought.:D I bet thats their story, and they are sticking to it![:I]......BB

I don't know anything about TC, guiding, or enforcement, but the argument about them squandering an individual's tax contributions is weakish.
Conservatively if the annual cost/maintenence of the vessel is $300,000 and the yearly wages for the 6? clowns is $600,000 and they f the dog around for 2 full weeks of the year,
900,000/26 = $34,615/18,000,000 tax payers =$0.00192 per tax payer.
I can pay for everyone on the forum's share of taxes with the pennies in my ashtray.
Seems like an affordable perk for occasionally putting their lives on the line.

Tubber, sorry but you have missed the point. Really not about how little or much it costs ....its that what they are doing is using government equipment and supplies for personal gain. .....simple. It would be against RCMP (Government) policy to use the boats/supplies for personal use ( personal private gain)

Now saying that , is it a huge big deal for me to see that ..... not overly. I suspect that considering the reputation the RCMP have gained lately, they would be more careful about making more mistakes.
