iPhone apps for fishing etc

Got told that Apple has a major contact with a Russian GPS company and the GPS is top of the line. I have not lost service anywhere on the water in the last 2 years can't say the same about my other GPSs.

I want a mount for my iPad for the boat now....

Hey, I also just ordered a holder for my ipad. Bouncing on the dash worked OK, but this will be great. I've been looking for a while and hadn't found the perfect one(for my needs) until now. I wanted one that can have the ipad either in or out of a waterproof case, which is tricky to find.

I just paid on sale $12.38 WITH shipping and taxes. Can't go wrong with that price.

Just ordered one myself. Hopefully it stays mounted in rough seas otherwise may have to make some modifications. Looks decent though... especially for $10

Apply a very thin layer of silicone under the suction cup and when it drys you will need a flexible knife to remove it.

Should have ordered one for the truck.

Covering my needs while the boxing sales are on...Just ordered a waterproof case too(and it will fit in the new mount!)! I have the Ipad 1 and this looks like the best option out there for under $100 and it floats. If I had the ipad 2 or 3 I would have probably gone for the Lifeproof ipad case, but it doesn't work for the ipad 1. This lifeedge one looks like a pretty smart design and not too hard to get in and out.

So, if I bought an app for a GPS on my ipad. It will work anywhere? My ipad is wifi only, no cellular capabilities at all. I'm having a hard time understanding that it'll work in my boat, without wifi or data usage. I'd love to run an ipad for GPS if that is how it works.

I believe you need to have a cellular iPad but it does not need to be to be activated.

I get zero cell reception off Renfrew and consequently none of my apps that use GPS and work off cell towers work. Bummer. Has anyone heard of apps that use satellite ?

20+ miles off shore and no reception and still my navionics program and tidal program work great.

There was some reason I did not use mine frequently. Maybe battery life of my iPhone and no charger! Absolutely love love my Navionics app. Best deal on the market!

Will only work on calm waters or paved roads. Just got mine. The suction cup is likely the strongest part of this unit. I will gladly sell mine if anyone wants to try it. Oh and don't get fooled by the name of the company they are in Hong Kong.

I just got mine too....although I am not as disappointing as you seem to be. I wasn't expecting much for $12. I am going to give it a try before shelving it. The suction certainly is strong enough. The part that I am not super happy with is the part that holds the ipad as it's certainly made for any similar sized item and not specifically for an ipad. I would certainly rather be out trying it right now than working...
