Halibut

Planning on heading out on Wednesday to either 18 or Constance. Looking at the currents, does anyone have a suggestion which one would be better?? If Constance, sit on east or west??
Any luck???

Weather and work got in the way. Currents still good on Constance this weekend, hope to check it out. Anyone else make it out there and if so, how was it??

Mr. Dean I am sure it will be a good trip out no matter what happens, I won’t give up and if I don’t catch anything I will post for a guide on this forum, and see if there are any takers. (trips already booked) This is only my second attempt for Hali, I am going to try Maddog’s bait suggestion first I have heard it from several fishermen who have fished for Hali.
I am one who can’t stand failing so I will keep going until I can’t fish anymore.
Same boat your in, no Hali where I live, got to make the trip across island to the west coast. I once thought if a guide can do it so can I, but they can teach you some stuff you don’t even know or thought you could do. It’s amazing and am sure it all comes with experience, you probably can pick up something from almost everyone if you promise not to tell. I find most of what I know is the same, but I have been fishing for over 20 years. Halibut is the one of the last local fish that I have not been successful with but also have not tried to fish.

Will try the search engine on this forum

Cheers

My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.
:)

Wolf, you have me curious, why wouldn't you consider the currents this weekend on Constance not good. From what I see Saturday is slack at noon and flooding at 1.2 knots. Do you have better luck on the ebbs or floods???

When you are anchored, a 1.2 knot current is quite fast if you like the gear 200 ft behind you all the best i like a little current and my rod on a nice 60 degree angle not a 180 LOL.I find the fish move around more when there isnt as much current thats why most guides will fish the next set of tides, more time on fishable hours to get them. A 2 or 3 hour window we cant be bothered , from what i heard today the doggies have moved in also

hope that helps Wolf

Good Day: Wolf

where are you guiding out of and for how long?
I will have to see how this trip goes and go from there, sounds like you are very sucessful. To bad I did not get the chance to talk to you before I booked the trip.
Since I am without a boat for a year I figure I am best to learn how to fish Hali's untill the new one arrives next year.

I will remember you for the next Hali trip we book, hope to get a few in this year.

thanks
