Good Day: Mr. Dean
I hate to say with great regret that I did not hook any Halibut , all the on line research and reading did not help this time. The first day was a perfect day, **** on a plate out there, no one on the boat hooked a Halibut. I tried Squid, herring, Mudraker, Octopus, Jigs. You named it I tried it. Second day was slow for the salmon charter, very slow. <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle> one good thing I can say about my charter, is that I met a guide in a local pub from another charter that guaranteed he will limit out my group for Halibut. Guaranteed! It looks like I am going to book with him for the end of June. I only went to learn where the Halibut are and how to fish them, for when the new boat comes next year. I can catch Springs, Coho’s, Steelhead, Sockeye, and Lingcod, but Halibut is new to me.
If anyone wishes to book a charter for Halibut, I would recommend staying away from the OBMG out of Ucluelet. I learned that there boat Captains are not actually guides, they just have a license to run large boats. I actually knew the deck hand on the boat and after small conversation I will not likely book with OBMG in the future. ( A good lesson in not to believe everything you read on there web site)
Mr. Dean I will let you know how my trip goes in the end of June.
