Gardening pics, hacks, successes, and or failures

If it smells bad I’ll just add more leaf mould or compost, will see how well it will work. Try to balance the nitrogen with carbon.

I hear burying whole fish down deep can be very effective

Yeah I’ve stuck it in the compost pile in the bottom the microbes decompose it pretty fast.

The liquid will just be more versatile and a little bit goes along way, I am
Also on a bigger lot so not really an issue to put it out back in the yard or shed

I can’t even compost here because we get bears daily from April to October basically. I’d have way too many attractants. I’d rather them in the neighbours backyard than mine.

Had a quick peek under the cold frame:

Garlic is coming right along!

I only compost stuff from the garden, grass clippings, leaves ect, not kitchen scraps
Rats have become a problem for Sidney and the peninsula again. Ever since the poison that works is NLA at the consumer level and the inception of the compost programs.
Rats are all through the stores, The stores have to box all their consumables in plastic bins at night, including candybars, chips, etc. Grass seed, bird seed...etc.

Gross

Over the winter around 75 - 80 % of our strawberry plants crashed and burned.
They reside in the same bed as our peach tree.
It has been around 9 years since they were all planted, with nothing but Miracle Grow supplementation.

So, I dug them all out, dug out some of the old soil, and replaced that with a load of Black Earth and Sheep Manure.
Salvaged what I could, and replanted.
For perspective, since they were first planted you could not see any of the soil through the strawberry plants.

Likely a small return this year, but I expect good things for the next.
And it most certainly won't hurt the peach tree either.

Cheers
