Fires 2025

No Chit.
Wind is picking up -sending the smoke right into town with the fire on it's heels.
I am putting scramble kits together and packing up the guns...
One of my Cousins is at top Argyle and 12th and are doing the same. Stay safe, Matt hope things don't get worse for you, the misses' and the dogs.

That inlet has to be one of the windiest places on the coast. Especially in the afternoon.
Dam. Nothing worse than that hot dry wind. Been almost 30 years since I fought fire, but the spidey sense tingles in my brain, like it did years ago when I learned about firefighters trying to escape out of control forest fires. This will kill everything when the fire behaviour gets like that and the winds blow.

Be safe all of you.

with that strong wind out of the south taking over, firemap.live showed a big push of a new leading edge to the north overnight, looks like around only 3km from the edge of the city. That rain can't come soon enough!

The fire has grown substantially which is not being recorded accurately on the Fire App.
It has hopped the Bamfield road, and passed above the Cameron Logging Camp (situated at the end of Ship Creek Road) and is now headed towards Mount Arrowsmith. It is believed the bridge at China Creek may be gone. It continues to spread at an alarming rate being pushed by winds yesterday up to 38 Knots.

We are one neighborhood (4 blocks) away from the current Evacuation Alert.

Ran down Inlet to get a view from the far side yesterday.

This is what we saw:

Very reminiscent of an active volcano!

Pretty damn nervous at this point.
Ash covers everything, and when the wind shifts it gets too smokey to see much beyond simply across the street.
Makes for damn sore throats!

Weather cooled today and a small amount of rain is in the forecast - one of the few times I actually hope they are wrong and we get a LOT more sky water than predicted!

Best of Luck to all those fighting this Monster!
They are going to need it!

Nog the Nervous

Thinking of you, and Family in Port. Be Ready and stay safe. Hopefully the rain slows things down and it doesn't reach the city.

big difference between nasa hotspot imaging (well over 5000 ha) and BC fire totals. I realize BC fire hasn't been able to update since last night, but thats a huge difference.

rain harder!!!!

i can weep about the 20k plus i alone have lost in revenue, but i think more of the trickle down economy here in bam. off to my last charter this morning for the season. praying this rain hits hard and 50 hydro crews get things rolling again. very fortunate no one or major properties have been hit. Although we have had a medi vac because a tourist went to take a leak and fell off the deck at night. duh...

how big of a portable generator would it take to run a small town like this? i see them at costco for emergency power. 4 semi trailer type gennies clipped in just outside of town?

Getting any rain there yet Matt?

Thus far we have had light drizzle resulting in 10 mm's of rain in the last 24 hours.
Suspected to see another 20 mm's in the next 24 hours.

Fingers crossed we get even more!

The cooler air has to help some, as does the wind backing down.
Unfortunately that shifted a bit, and it has become extremely smokey outside..

Well good luck. I thought you were still in Ukee. Guess you moved there?
