Tsunami notification bulletin

to: Provincial emergency notification system recipients

from: Provincial emergency coordination centre

provincial emergency notification system bulletin #2

this is an important bulletin from the provincial emergency notification system. A large earthquake has occurred in the pacific basin near haida gwaii. The west coast alaska tsunami warning centre has issued a tsunami warning for the following zones of coastal british columbia:
Zone a - the north coast and haida gwaii

zone b - the central coast including bella bella, bella coola and shearwater

at this time it is believed that a low level tsunami could impact marinas and other coastal infrastracture. Or create strong currents in harbours and isolated coastal areas in these zones. Local governments in these zones are advised to activate their emergency plans and to immediately evacuate marinas, beaches and other areas that are below the normal high tide mark.

For the following zones the bulletin has been elevated to an advisory

zone c - the outer west coast of vancouver island from cape scott to port renfrew

zone d - the juan de fuca strait from jordan river to greater victoria, including the saanich penninsula

no bulletin issued for

zone e - the georgia basin including the gulf islands and low lying areas from greater vancouver north to campbell river

only two small wave has been measured at langara (north tip of haida gwaii) 2042hr and 2102hr of less than 50cm. Nothing has been measured or observed on the west coast of vancouver island

According to my the earthquake app the QC has had about 37 aftershocks in the same area all between 4.0 and the latest 5.1.

Another one just hit, I received the notification before global news. Your okay down their no tsunami coming

That last one was a dandy 6.4. Hope they are ok up there.

events like this add a bit of excitement to my otherwise mundane occupation :). Fingers crossed the mega-thrust event predicted for the lower mainland doesnt happen until I'm long gone.

Went to USGS to check on alert of a 6.2 an hour ago, and there were 2 more since that alert. I then counted up all the recorded aftershocks and it was a total of 297. Some of those are fairly good ones in the 4 to 6 range. Good thing its moving a lot and not storing up for one really big one.
