DFO is still allowing Coho to be slaughtered

We had some fantastic bucktailing in the shallows off Marina Island, East of Campbell River. The water was clear and shallow. You could see dogfish along the bottom in about 12' of water, with an abundance of small herring with Coho trashing thru. They would hit small green and white bucktials with a spinner, take a jump and fight like hell. On one trip 9 out of 12 hits were the middle rod in the motor wash. It was Mike Rippingale, a friend who was head guide at Painters Lodge who sent us there in our small tinny.
Lots of stories on the good ole days...eh.

All the kelp beds I used to rake herring at are gone, as are the "herring gulls". Some kind of terns I believe. All you needed back then was a 12 ft tinnie with a 9.9, a herring rake and good observation skills. Some of the most enjoyable fishing I ever had.
