Three weeks ago, I was heading to the bottom of Hornby Is looking for winter springs. As i cut in close to shore, I saw a buoy in about 150ft of water, Strange, as it was too shallow for prawns and there are no crab in that area. On the way back, it was still there so I ran over and wrote down the guys name and telephone number.
At home I phoned him and asked if he had lost a trap.... Yup--- lost THREE , three weeks ago!!! I told him where the one was, and since I was heading out the next day, asked him if he wanted me to pull it. He did, and I did................ It was a nice square trap that he made himself... But with 350 ft of rope and no extra weigh on either the line or trap, it had legs . It had moved a long way from where he set it. I looked for the other two traps , but couldnt find them.
Strangely, it turned out the guy was almost a neighbour, that I has never met.. We BSed for quite a while and agreed to get together this summer for joint prawn hunting and fishing expeditions in the mainland inlets.
