Canucks 2023-2024 season

We hear the talk of thrown games to make more money for team owners, or secret side bets, but who would throw a game 8-1??? Lol

More seriously though, game 1 could so easily have gone to EDM. They were way much better team that night, but no luck and hot goalie. One or two bounces that night and this would be a 2-2 series.

I liked how EDM kept the hunger right through 60 minutes. Never looked like they were sitting on a lead and coasting. Old grouches like Cherry would have decreed this as unsportsmanlike, humiliating your opponent. But they knew they can't relax for even a minute or the Panthers are back in it. They didn't "run up the score", they protected their lead by adding to it. Shelling Bobrovsky was a nice bonus though.

I will say though, that allowing betting into any sport opens it up to suspicion of game fixing. Sports gambling is more than just a benign tax on the stupid covered as entertainment, it's a potential source of corruption baked right into the structure.

Latest Canucks news Hronek re-signed for 8 years at $7.25m. RHD’s are at a premium and $$$ are reasonable. Now try and get Big Z done which is going to be a challenge after his performance in the playoffs. Maybe Myers also at $3m for 3 years.
Cole walks unfortunately but like any UFA he has that right. Too bad he played injured through the playoffs.

Another exciting game. McDavid is filling his sails after a slow start in the series. We can all see his stick skills and skating ability, but his fitness is pretty impressive too. Ice time around 24-25 minutes per game, often stays on the ice for an entire power play.

Right hand D is fine if they make other players better. Hughes made Hronek better. Petey in same boat - he needs help. We have a bunch of overpaids that need supporting cast to help them. Miller is prime example of a player who makes others around him better. That said, ok, Hronek could be Hughes partner for years. But if we dont sign Zadorov then Hronek is useless.

Panthers probably hired a bunch of sport psychologists last night to nurse their guys through the weekend and get them back on their feet for the winner take all on Monday night.

The pressure equation is balanced 50/50, I think. Florida have been caught in the trap of trying not to lose. EDM knows they have the expectations of an entire country riding on them. Who do you think has the mental edge in game 7?

Tough to take the momentum away from a team that is so streaky. Their penalty kill and win streaks this year were insane, probably had a PP streak too. I haven't watched full games but having what looked like the rest of the team step up with goals and defense this last game gives the Oil the edge with McJesus getting several days rest. I'm biased. Bring that cup back to Canada or Canada is broken and I'm ready to trade JT for JB!
