Well, it only took me 23 years of fishing, but finally got thoroughly checked out by an officer. Huge road check set up near Duncan Bay - like 5 cop cars out there and the conservation dude. Checked license, my chum (only 3 and lost 4....bad catch ratio today but 3 got off pretty quick), commented on my tire pressure and greasing my trailer axle, then talked a little about the fishing in general (chit chat). No problems that my buddy didn't have a license - he was basically my netter as it was, but I was running 2 rods (not that it says anything about that in the reg's anyway). I have only known 1 person, 2 rods, 2 people 3 rods....no clue if someone in the boat doesn't have a license. Anyhow, officer obviously saw the 2 rods but didn't question it at all, so I assume it's your daily limit that is the main concern with license numbers...
Wonder how the buddy behind did though - was in a huge boat and had been up at Stuart Island for a week - mentioned he had limited out every day. That should have been nervewracking for him with probably 20 salmon in his boat!
Funny thing was (and I've done it before when pulled over by cops), was he asked where we lived and I blurted out Victoria....I live in CR though <img src=icon_smile_shy.gif border=0 align=middle> Whoops. Having recently moved I guess I sort of forgot and went with where I've lived the longest!
Survived anyway.
Doing the chum thing I wish I brought out my fish finder. Was fishing mostly 80 feet and was getting nothing - tried one rod at 20 since they were jumping like crazy, nothing...few hours in I split at 55 and all the sudden it was a mad house - the 7 on where in the span of about an hour. Largest was 10 male and it easily gave me a tougher fight than the 20 spring I caught up at Malcolm Island. Like people say, I was amazed at the strength.
Nice forecast weatherman...way the hell off!
