well i have to say thanx to blue for all the tips, because they paid off! we fished from 7-945 at deepwater bay and nailed 6 and lost 5(one wasa good 15 pounds too) pink/blue, pink/black, and black/purple apexs all were good. a blue spin n glo added to the front of the hootchies also worked. those chums sure fight well too! got a 12 pounder that felt like a 16-18 pound spring would. great weather, great fishing! saw a ton of boats at plumper so that must have been even better.

one question about preparing chum, i plan on smoking these should i do anything different then i would for a coho or sockeye? never smokeda chum before but heard they are the best.

Yes the chum fishing has been fantastic. Plumperbay on the ebb tide.Deepwaterbay on the flood.Up inside seperation head 80ft pink hoochies with glow spots with ablue spin in glow above it Good andsafe fishing Snowwhite

hey blue about the chum derby, do you have to preregister by phoning, or do you buy tickets when you get there, and does 10 bucks cover both days, or is that for one? thanx we're thinking of givin it a shot this year!

Just a quick note on the chum topic - does anyone notice a considerate difference using mini-flashers over the regular size? The island fisher emphasizes the mini's, but I'm wondering if it is really worth the money buying them for a couple trips a year for a specific target!

Thoughts?

I have both the mini flashers and regular....both work.
Purple Haze and purple and black flashers is what I use, but even the old green ones work..?? go figure..
As for pre-registering for the chum Derby...call them direct...number is on the first of my posts.
Limited yesterday in just under two hours at Green Sea and about three hour today at Plumper..wind today was nuts but the fishing was hot...I also have the secret weapon that I will intoduce to you all at the Derby,,,....

hey blue as far as fishing the tides go which spot do you fish on the flood vs ebb? we were at deepwater when it was about slack and fishing was great when the tide began flooding the bite totally died. however there was only like 6-8 boats there because when we drove out we saw the massive crowd at plumper.

Thanks blue for the info...much appreciated :)

Eagle eyes...read back in thread - snowwhite already pointed out the tides...

I read that one thats why i was asking because our experiance seemed to be the opposite. seeing as blue seems to be the master on this topic i figured i'd ask him. also at least half of the boats fishing with us were guides...

your very welcome all... I'm no expert but I have caught a few fish....I don't normally fish Plumper unless the wind prevents me from running away from the crowds...although I did today but after having a boat run over my gear twice I went in deep to the the north side and fished with two or three other boats and did well without fighting the wind, the currents,a triple header and other anglers at the same time ..I find that dealing with four things at once is too taxing by the end of the day..after all it's only fishing and it should still be fun.

we'll be in the blue princecraft aluminum- not a monster but she sure catches fish. we'll probly be heading to deepwater seeing as that worked pretty well for us last time.

hey Eagle Eyes the fishing up north the last couple of days have been fantastic. the bite has been getting alittle later in the mornings because of later tide change.Plumper bay is were its at 60ft to 80ft good luck snowwhite

Hey Blue...where were you hiding today? Didn't see you at Separation nor Plumper. Didn't realize it was you Eagle eyes, but saw you catching a few there. I was in the faded red 12' lund with my buddy and his near broken thumb - you could tell cause we where the ones that couldn't net the fish worth **it! Can't blame him really - trying to net one handed, but I probably would have been better off netting myself.

3 in the boat by the time we left (6-8 pounds), and had a very large one break my leader (probably because I was paranoid he was going to hook up on another boats downrigger so I was trying to hold my ground worth a darn while he peeled my line). Felt like a 20-25 pound spring, so whats that? 15

First time doing the chum thing - quite a festival of chaos at Plumper - I counted 92 in the bay around 11. Too bad we had to leave so my buddy could work...would have liked to limit.

BTW...straight purple silver flasher and the J300 at 80 feet was the ticket for me.

Oh yeah - the guy in the sailboat with the colorful rugby jersey reading his paper on the front deck was sadly to say my boss! hehe That wasn't fishin!

Hope to get out there again in a couple weeks if the weather cooperates.

tight lines all....
dave
