Boats on Used Victoria and Other Areas

My honest power length to horsie formula:

17’ min 90 and 115 ideally
18.5’ min 115 and 150 ideally
20-21’ min 175 and 200 ideally
23’ 225 min and 250 ideally or twin 150’s
25-26’ min 300 and ideally 350 or twin 200’s.

Edit: adding a pod with flotation adds one power level higher than “ideal.” There are always minor exceptions ie a heavy Grady could use one more than shown and a light tinny could be great with “min”
Print this up and put it on your refrigerator!

According to your chart I got it right, a 22’ tinny with a Zuke 200.

That looks about right for gas powered outboards. Looking at diesel, torque matters more than horsepower - my D3 - 200 performs at least as well as the original 260 hp gas I/O in a 23 Hourston that weighs ~6500 lbs.

This is when prop size and pitch and basically surface area of blade comes to the table

Give me a two-stroke with, half the hp, a tiller, pull start, on a riveted aluminum with ideally no passengers over 200lbs and we can send it! I think recent discussions of heavy batteries in boats is food for thought. A guy just caught a nice tyee in Bamfield in a tin boat with manual downriggers.

i’m in. let’s all sell our oversized boats and go back to tinnys with 2 stroke power like our dads!

the way the world is going with the cost of gas and whatnot i think we may have to!

That’s how my Dad introduced me to the ocean world, 12’ Mirrocraft with a 1977 9.9 Evinrude with manual downrigger on one side and deep 6 on the other, so many Great memories! We Sent that tinner everywhere!

What would you put on a 19’ Seasport Skipper if podded?
