How are these explorer's vs a double eagle 18.5?

I have seen more of the exploeres than DE it seems. Both have cuddies, is the explorer just lighter and different hull? Seems like DE is the #1 for this size.

Hey. I am selling an 18' Hourston Glascraft

The boat is in great condition. Lighting inside and out was recently updated to LED.

Comes with:
Lowrance gps/depth sounder.
CD stereo with aux input.
Marine vhf radio.
350 V8 engine 4 barrel carb with OMC Stern Drive.
Trim tabs.
Many extra omc parts.
Tonneau cover
Camper cover
Full boat cover

This boat is amazing in the ocean.
It spent most of its time at Sproat Lake as a lake boat.

For its age, it has very low hours. The engine was replaced in 1986, and since then has approximately 500 hours.

What would you think this would sell for?20210505_140022.jpg20210505_134715.jpg

imagine owning a boat since new and. selling it for more than what you paid for it? what a time to be alive...

I have been on both boats, the debate can go on and on, but it depends on what you plan on doing. I would perosnally take the Double Eagle 185 because you can sleep in the cuddy. The Cuddy on the explorer is just oversized storage IMO. I also feel like when your driving the 185 you sit a bit higher which makes it feel like your in a bigger boat.
Both great boats in this market get what you can and enjoy it.

What should I be asking? 10k, 8k, 5k?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this boat? Been for sale for a month I think. I’m not sure who services Honda’s on the mainland. I’m not a fan of Honda outboard but might go take a peek at this one
Honda Marine- 1st Ave, West of Boundary Rd.

Maple Marine in Langley

There’s also a mechanic in Richmond who my buddy used to go to and he came highly recommend. I can dig up his phone# when/if needed.

Hondas are like tanks. If serviced well, they can go for thousands of hours. Just change oil and filter and use non-ethanol gas. Only problem is availability of parts and service

I don't know if you have been in a 2005 or newer 542, but it definitely sits higher than the older 542 and slightly higher than a 185.

I have bought parts for my kicker at the place off boundary. Pretty small place and suited for kickers and bikes. I didn’t know about maple marine though so that’s good. I know they are tanks. I just can’t stand my kicker tell tale always getting clogged and the bigger motors are so heavy and sluggish

If I had freedom of choice, Honda wouldn’t be my top pick b/c of the reasons mentioned. But then the boat in that ad looks clean and is reasonably priced IMO. If it checks out, I would make a compromise and agree to live with the Honda. You’re very unlikely to take the motor to a shop at 390 hrs. If you’re handy with basic mechanical work, you can easily do your regular maintenance yourself.
that place off Boundary Rd does install/service big motors too. They’re just too damn busy and expensive for regular maintenance IMO.
Good luck!

I have been in the newer model since they changed it in 2005 I know the freeboard is a lot higher but I still felt like it wasn't as high as the 185 I could be wrong maybe it's the small windows they use on the 542. Regardless both good options and very popular boats.
