JMO, I have same motor on my 16' boat and it's fine.
the Hourston is a bigger heavier hull and it would struggle

I’m with Scott. 90 is acceptable but to get anywhere that’s not within a couple of km’s from the launch I’d prefer a 115-140. Lower RPM = Work less hard and less fuel burn for higher speed. You’d need to run a 60 at full throttle which tends to wear out motors faster.

Your not going to get a modern 4 stroke in 115-140hp on a 17 hourston for 7k lol. Compare apples to apples it’s a good package for under 10k.

under powered Is subjective I guess but trust the 60 is enough for that boat. Those Yamaha are bulletproof proof I’ve run mine at 4,500 rpm everywhere for the last 10 years no issues.

Agreed. Black Gold Lodge uses that boat with a 50, Shearwater uses that boat with 50 and 60 Yamaha four stroke. They are closer to the fishing grounds but they work well. Great for trolling, so quiet compared to a whining 9.9 kicker.
