Usually don't go out at this time of the year, but with the schitbagz at DFO givin us the bum rush on hali quota again decided yesterday to see if the halis are still happening.

They are.

Lost a couple, killed twin 32's and a 20. Nice yelloweye as well.

Gonna head out with Bod in about half an hour to see what we can shake up as well.

We also got out to the Barkley Sound this weekend. Probably the best weather I hit all year. Fishing was good too.We stuck to the bottom fish as it was the last chance for Hali. Saturday was awesome, giving up A 50lb and a 20 Hali and a 35 lb Ling and a couple more Ling and 1 Vermilion. Sunday mornings fish gave up 3 more ling and a great whale show, but no Hali. Great way to say goodbye to the west coast for 2010.

Here are a couple pics for all of you that thought of going out but did
not.

Good job, there is always a 50lbr waiting there...

As Ken posted, a 30 and 35 for our efforts, we stayed pretty close to home. Weather was just incredible!

Hey Jeff good to see the Master of hali fishing still has it. How was the Elk Hunting this year? Liz and i saw 14 head in the past 3 days here.....3 small bulls total. Heading back out this weekend to try for a bull again. Whitey was taken back in the first week in September so that one is done. Just enjoying the Jerky now....:)

Take care and say hi to the Misses

I fished Sarita for not a bite this morning so picked up the gear and ran to Beale for the tide change. There was a good bite for small springs that lasted an hour or so. Killed one and released a couple that were legal but small. About twenty shakers that were both Coho and Chinook. Trolled up a whole mess of bottom fish and sent the guys home happy. That should be the last charter for the year. Now time to head for the hills and take my gun for a walk about.

Rabbi: Cayman Boy is making noises about an impending wander your way for a visit. :D

Headed out shortly for a Bounce with horns 'n hooves, but back after dark. We should touch bases... ;)

Cheers,

Bamfield today

Went and put prawn traps down and thought what the heck. I'm out here, I may as well fish. A few others and myself as well have been itching to fish and want a report.
Headed for the Whistle Bouy ( for those unfamiliar with our area it is the green bouy marking the entrance to Trevor Channel at Seapool Rocks ) It is a popular winter spot.
Didn't waste time trying to do anything fancy. Just put out the gear I fished about a month ago. Irish Cream spoon on one side and Cookies & Cream on the other side, both behind purple/gold flashers. Got the gear down and was trying to decide if I should go with the wind into the swell or with the swell into the wind when I see a big school of bait fish on the sounder. I'm thinking this looks good when the port rod bounces a couple of times and then pops out of the clip. Right on I think. But it wasn't to be. The fish was gone. I reset the rod and went a little farther then turned and came back with the swell.( 4.3 meters, blowing 32 at Laperuse ) Seeing lots of feed and the Starboard rod gets a bite. It won't pop so I help it and bring a small spring in. Legal but small and wild as well so it goes free. Gear back down and go a little further marking lots of feed. Both rods start to shake and at first I think it is the feed but it turns out to be two more small springs. They get released to grow up. This was all in less than one hour. Dragging the gear right on the bottom. With a little more time and weeding out the small ones I am sure there are some nice fish to be had.
