Aquaculture improving?..The Fish Farm Thread

Seawest - Groan! Just as long as everyone recognizes that Seawest is NOT a news source, but rather a PR company hired by the BCSFA that is not accountable as are other Canadian real news sources are.

And from the posted picture on the form it says "FOR DECISION" meaning it is and was the Minister's decision - and NOT the departments NOR the industry's decision.

The industry had 9 YEARS to get ready for this and they did NOTHING because they are so used to getting their way with the Deputy Minister's office. That's called CORRUPTION, readers.

Interested to know on what legal basis they decided FN not allowed to participate in this hearing.

"Last week, the court ruled that affected First Nations could not participate in today’s hearing. While Ecojustice and its clients look forward to presenting their arguments, they are concerned the court will not hear from First Nations on how their rights will be impacted by the proposed injunction."

Maybe they had some sort of competing court case? Maybe First Nations were not official participating on the paper work that was filed?

sure its probably has to do with some process thing

AA: Maybe this is better since its not Sea West. Same information though.

Memo reveals fisheries minister's phase-out of B.C. salmon farms went against department advice - POLITICO
Memo reveals fisheries minister's phase-out of B.C. salmon farms went against department advice. The fish farming companies cried foul after the Dec. 17 announcement and have launched a legal challenge in Federal Court. www.politico.com

They were denied intervener status. The ENGOs were given 30 mins.

"Five nations — Homalco, Tla’amin, We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah First Nations — whose traditional territory include the Discovery Islands were included in consultations with Jordan in the fall, but were denied permission by the court to be interveners on this injunction application."

"No reason for that denial has been released yet."

Those who recognize the hazards of Open Net Pen Atlantic Salmon Fish Farms are fighting an uphill battle against foreign governments, big money, DFO and Provincial AND Federal Canadian government, but you do get the feeling things are moving in the right direction.

Couldn't agree more strongly w your post, GF. I've read a pile of these ATIPs. I am incensed at how compromised and corrupt some people in DFO are - esp. the Deputy Minister's office. It's time to reinvent DFO again, as well. That's the real problem here.
