Anchor rode length

With all the help and info on this site, I've been able to determine the right diameter for my boat. However, I'm not sure about the length. I'll be fishing Hali in 200/300 ft. of water around Victoria/Sooke. From what I've read, 600 ft. With 20 ft. of chain should be fine. Will this be ok, or should I go with 900 ft?
Thanks

900 is overkill. 600 ft is plenty and go twice your boat length in chain if you can....At Trotac they have a handout that is very visual if you stop in there... Its also been posted on here many times...If you do search...

Good luck...Have you anchored before BTW..May want to ask someone on here to go with you once you get it all set up..Maybe do a few practice anchoring and retrieves...

It depends a bit on your boat but what Spring Velocity and Reel Gone has mentioned seems about right. I had about 25ft of chain but I'd end up dragging my anchor when it was a bit rough so I lengthened my anchor to about 45' and it's been fine with about 500ft rode anchored in 300ft+ of water. My boat catches a lot of wind too. I lengthened my rode also but the extra chain made the biggest difference.

Thanks again for all the help. I will get some education/practise to get it right.
