ya we were fishin sox, its not yet chinook time in the inlet. we'll be staying at china creek as well with a bunch of guys. pill point is a great spot as well, that's probly where I'll head if sockeye fishin is slow.

Last Saturday was a bust for me as well. Seems they're really in the on again, off again mode
But, a couple of the ladz literally hammered them yesterday, during the MID-DAY slack at Cous. Go Figure!!
Checked on the flow yest afternoon. She's dropped considerably, and is now starting to warm. Not so good for the runners, but great news for the chuck anglers! That will have them stacking in short order now, AND, the limit is about to be raised to 4 daily!!
Heard Pill was slowing down, a few teenies still about, but the large appear to have wandered on. Next wave soon.

See Ya on The Pond...

Whereabouts (exactly) do the socs (and fishermen) usually stack up in Alberni? I've been to China Creek, but what area is the "canal"?

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

Inlet/Canal are the same...as for stacking fish and fisherman, just head towards Nahmint and it will be obvious!!

Thanks Juan. For some time I've wanted to take a run up the "canal" for some sockeye fishing, and last year I visited Alberni to check out things a bit first. On my chart, Nahmint Bay appears opposite Ten Mile Point, not too far for a run from Alberni.

Had fair success today with windy conditions all morning.
3 small males and a good size doe at 8 lbs.

well considering how well most people seem to be doing thats not too shabby blue, any hints on location..., we'll be at china creek sat-mon.

Just got back from china cr. Got 8 sox in 4 days.Lost atleast twice that many. The fishing was getting better everyday people are starting to catch their limits(2 per day)Limits changing to 4 on friday.

Fished Friday, got two fish. Seen maybe 20 fish netted all day. Got windy and miserable about 10 am. Fishing sucked and so we opted to pack up and head for home. Hopefully it will pick up soon....

fished sat-sun= 3 sockeye= worst sockeye fishing I've seen in 6 yeas of fishing sockeye= very dissappointed me

fishing was so slow I had to break in my new islander reel on a snapper at Bamfield

Now EE, that's slow!
Got three today and we were lucky with that, as I saw alot of empty nets today....SWC was out there today too...some were lucky with three or four and but most didn't even a sniff...
Saw a number of good sized schools but...that's fishing.....

We fished the 1st and 2nd, caught 1 on the fist and nothing on the second. We fished Cous Creek to Dunsmuir both days, saw a pretty good bite the first day and almost nothing happening on the 2nd.

ya it was pretty ugly compared to usually limiting out, can't wait for chinook time in august i guess... unless a big school shows up im not holding my breath for any great sockeye action at alberni this year.

Data collected tells us 3 to 4 times the average amount of fish have already made up the river for this early in the season. Raineist June since 1970's, but thats great will help returning numbers in future years. Remember once they start to stack and hold all hell will break lose with next run which is the biggest run all summer !!!! That's what I've been told so for better fishing all it will take is for the rain to stop for awhile. Please don't try to tell me different I'm out for a week there July 10 to 17th

Cheers ME

Happy Hookin!!!

If your heading up in a week or so, don't forget to bring the chinook gear. It's been pretty good at Pill Pt, I saw several caught on a tide change bit on Saturday. China Creek Marina was out of Anchoives, so make sure you get some at Gone Fishin shop in Port.

Thanks for the tip.I have a few great guys in port that keep me up to date with whats up and I will targeting springs too. I don't leave for a fishing/camping trips without taking most of my fresh and saltwater gear. Who know's what ya might need.

I admit it I'm a fishing addict Cheers ME

Happy Hookin!!!
