Hey Cutplug! Im taking some more newbies out this week and was thinking about heading out of Cheanuh. When you say get to Cheanuh early to get a parking spot for the truck and trailer, how early is early?

We fished out of Cheanuh at 8:30 this morning. I asked about the parking and it turns out it was only for the tribal journeys that was taking place the other day. I parked in overflow and no issues. The kids running the marina did a great job keeping the launch running smoothly.

The fishing was hot again today at the Head. Didn't see many springs though. Released one big sockeye and 2 wild Coho. Kept 11 pinks and one 7lb Hatch coho. We were done by 11.

Thanks for the fishing report. And thanks for the info on the parking at Cheanuh. Much more helpful than the previous response to my question.
Cheers

As early as possible? Not trying to be cheeky but parking is limited there.

I've been there lots before and haven't had to use the overflow But it sounded like they are reorganizing the parking area and something has changed other than the launch rates. Yeah, early is definitely the best time to arrive. Thanks for the info. I'll be there in a few days when the wind is a little more manageable.
Cheers

Good to hear it was a one off and that overflow is available. My apologies to Cheanuh and you folks if my information was incorrect. It’s what I heard that day so passed it along.

How have others been doing crabbing lately?
I set traps in the harbour today. Lots of rock crab and small dungeness.
Not that many years ago I would do really well in a couple of spots on large dungeness but that has definitely changed. Has the commercial gear made that much of a difference?
Or have others noticed a change in the last bunch of years.??

Its terrible from what I heard from my commercial buddies is water "turned over" about 2 months ago and it hasnt recouped yet I get a few now and then but its not as great at it used to be, Got some nice fish yesterday and also got check by fisheries in that huge rubber boat they have, they check my lic and guest lic and my assortment of hoochies and spoons of the gear in my tray that I have been using, then left happy with everything . Good to see them out there....

Late start. Kids played cards till 3 last night. Fished 2:30-6:30

It was really bumpy. So fished near shore in 70-120' contour. From secretary island to beechy head. Got into 6 cohos lost four just as we were netting and wave would tilt boat just enough net rim knock hook right off. Well the two that was netted were both hatchery. So we came to the consensus those lost were all wilds. We also got 3 springs. Largest 66cm.

At one time when we were trolling westward I told the kids current too strong we've stayed stationary for past 10 min let's pickup and motor to secretary to start our trolling again. Kids was saying no no we are moving. Well we had a bite and it was a tiger rockfish. Have to say that convinced them we were way too slow.

Oh at one point daughter yelled rod 2 fish on !! She ran and grabbed it. As she was reeling in she commented this is one weird fish. When it broke surface son said wow seaweed. When she got it closer what do you know it's a bird!! Caught a bird at 60' !!! Good thing hook didn't puncture through bird. It only wrapped on the wing. Released and it quickly dove back down into water.

That's definitely one catch THATLL be hard to copy.

Oh all were caught on Irish cream coho killer
