2026 Gulf Island Reports

Stealth?

Had a chat with a guy on the boat who also met up with the CBSA and it looked like they were working together. I didn't grill him but sure sounded like it was government enforcement and everything, everything looked like it was ready to intercept, no downriggers or anything that looked personal.

Nope, he has zero government affiliation with that vessel, other than he works in government acquisitions and thought it was cool to own a cop boat. Ive also spoken with him. Lives on Pender, I also see him around Vancouver in that craft commuting to Pender. As I work on the water I observe lots of stuff.Next time you see him, ask and you'll see. Additionally if it was Government of Canada it would show in the vessel registration query system, it does not.

Thanks. Weird, I asked a couple of questions and he was less than transparent. Reminds me of Portapique. Crazy to spend that kind of money, not just to buy it but to have it outfitted the way he has. I can't remember the registration numbers if they were recreation or commercial. Anyways back to reports!

I've seen that boat before. It's moored at Poets Cove in a slip right next to the Customs dock. Not sure who runs it, but looked private. Nice looking ride tho.

Awesome Boat. Definitely bragging rights to have a challenger over a regular conquest. any BW government issue then Setup for personal use is cool. I wouldn’t be surprised if there has never been a fish on the deck of that boat. Majority of gulf islanders who commute just want to get to the cabin at any cost and dont care about fishing. Those who can have rigs that that. I only started fishing when I got my commuter conquest. We figured now that we have it, better learn how to fish. Thats been a fun journey.

Hopefully I can contribute to the reports soon. Work has me still tied to the dock. Need to get out soon!!!

Last weekend I caught a 73cm white, how often do you get white ones this time of year? It was a first for me but only have been fishing the area for 5yrs or so. I get them frequently in summer
It's a bit unusual, but I've been getting one here and there not true white but rather pale, delicious. Ive been attributing it to the abundance of squid they've been feeding on, not the usual shrimp fed red.but yeah they could be Harrison whites i guess

Got over for the weekend… well, still here, it was a bit choppy to cross today but tmw looks ok.
Hit Sandheads on the way over just for sh**s and giggles and got a 63cm feeder.
Hit Tumbo Saturday the channel was calm but winds howling thru made it hard to tack straight, no action.
Found a beauty winter tho this morning in Active on the high slack. 73cm/13lb and fought like hell, thought I was sealed for a second. Jumped a couple times near the boat too. Love that koho king lure 4”
