2025 Sidney Reports

Fished Moresby 8:30 to 12:30 on Sunday, lots of pinks still and undersized Chinook. Tried going deeper but still hooking into 50cm Chinook, switched over to bait and landed a 76cm Chinook at 100ft on DR near bottom on tide change. Had one more at the end that was fighting above its weight class that was just undersized and released. Winds came up right as it was time to head home. Great day, nice to get one more before the season wraps up.

So, does this rain mean we're done with Chinook for this year?
I don’t think it helps much. But with the amount of smaller fish being caught I think it could be a good year to fish over the winter locally. I had some productive days last December / January.
I did go out for a few hours yesterday morning in the fog. Lots of smalls, a wild coho and a clipped 10lb spring.

Where did you go?

I had a bit of a slow start to my workday this morning so I dropped crab traps and decided to try coal for an hour.

I have never seen so much bait! It was bubbling everywhere and birds were going crazy. The fishfinder was showing thick bait constantly.

At the 55 minute mark of my hour I finally got some love taps. It was a scrappy little spring in the low to mid 50cm’s. Thought it was a coho the way it was fighting.

Green coho killer and Betsy got the hit about 20’ off the bottom.

Went back this afternoon to pick up the crab traps. We got lucky and had four nice dungees. We dropped the traps back down, set the timer for 30 minutes of fishing back at coal and happened to hit a doubleheader, both landed. One with help from my 7 year old.

One was another one of those 50 some odd centimetre and the other was a unclipped coho. So if I lived in a +45 cm area I wouldve had 2 more on my license today. But alas I am cursed with Sidney fishing. Between my dad, my kid and me we are good for 26 more springs.

Still a great time. We went back to grab the traps on the way back in and found two more keepers in the 30 minutes so six crab definitely worth the time.IMG_8447.jpeg

Yeesh, it would be worth dropping a jig into a bait ball like that! With the hard edge on the top, it's probably being attacked by something.

Looks like a beauty day out there

love seeing kids out on boats, but please reconsider letting passengers sit on the bow of a moving vessel - great way to kill someone.

What a beauty night out there, we went over to Sidney spit. I figured the summer is ending and we had to get out there for one last time on the beach. I think this was the least amount of time we spent over there in the past few years since the kids really got into wanting to salmon fish this August and everytime we went on the boat they wanted to fish. We waited until the sun was setting and my 4 year old drove us back to the marina from the spit. What a great summer of fishing and on the water. Glad to see you guys had a fun day too!

We will for sure be trying the winter springs this year.
