2024 Kyuquot Reports

Any word up that way? Going far too early this year (not my choice) so may largely be a white fish program.
Seems to be lots of nooks, Winter Harbour and all the way through Esperanza to Bamfield. Decent class of fish also. Reel Obsession getting easy limits.

Fishing up here.....pretty darn good for this early.

And....we have a chef with is from a very well known Vancouver restaurant; he made gravlax which I have never had. I will just say cold smokes salmon is WAY, WAY at the back of the bus to what he made.

Heading into Kyuquot on Monday. Does anyone know what the road to Fair Harbour is like right now?? TIA!
Drove it today and it's in good shape. The first half of the section to Zeballos had the most pot holes, second half was pretty smooth. Zeb to Fair Harbour is in very good shape, they are working on a few spots in that section of the road so you may have minor delays. No trailer but under 1h 15mins or so from FH to pavement.

Just to add, most of the usual hills do have some washboard on them.

Lots of springs around in the teens and very scrappy; Spring Island, Hiast and Grassy were all producing. Had a few hatch coho but they are not around in numbers yet. We did white fish on the west end of the reef and did well.... guide boats on the white fish program looked to be running out to the highway.

Thanks so much for the information Pippen....very much appreciated!! Cheers.

Towing a boat make sure you have good tires and make sure they aren't over inflated. That includes your tow vehicle. Take it easy and you will probably be fine. If you don't you will be stopping in zeballos for tire repair. That road shreds tires like no other. Very sharp and hard rock. Slow and steady wins the race on this road.

Agreed. That sharp rock though that was around last year seems to have broken down or been graded off to the side. Last year it seemed to be pretty fresh and everyone was talking about flats. It is much more smooth and not as much loose rock this year. In my SUV for a lot of the drive I could easily do 80 km/h (I know it's posted for 60 but saw nothing but bears and grouse on the road for the most part ;) ) for a lot of stretches.
In saying all of that if towing a boat I would have a spare or two and was thinking afterwards I will put a can or two of that inflate a tire spray can just in case.

@Scorpiofisher just another FYI. Salmon guts have had smaller needlefish in them....flash-flies and skinny-g's did the bulk of the damage. Spring Island was full of bait and the best producing was to the south of the usual tack....hit 110' of water with riggers at 77-99

Thanks so much for the information guys!! I’ve done the road a bunch of times, including the last 3 years. Tires are decent, have 3 spares, a patch kit and pump, so hopefully that’ll do!! Lol. I’m always the slowest guy on the road….slow and steady. Appreciate the fishing info as well. Will post back when I return! Cheers.

Any recent reports? Wondering if any squid are around? Seems like they've kind of disappeared the last two seasons. Love fishing when the squid are in close to shore!
