2022 okanagan lake thread

Looks a lot warmer/nicer than Shuswap was yesterday.....couple on plugs and a 6 pounder on a RW bucktail....
Had a bald eagle swoop in while my daughter was reeling in a rainbow, wanted one of our fish a little more , lift off and then he dropped it crossing our lines , we did manage to still land the fish , despite a couple talon scratches the fish was in good shape , quick untangle and release....

Never feel bad Dude, you catch quality fish and your getting your son out with you, that priceless. The dog is a nice touch too

MIght have to take a rip over on days off. Was SLOW for me out there a few weeks ago. Just one solid hit right away then dead.

Had a wild derby day on Saturday. Landed 15 fish after figuring out what they wanted. Would have taken 2nd but landed this fish after the allotted time. Beauty day on the water.

Nothing since April?

Whos been out and what's been working?

Thinking they are still fairly high in the column with recent temps not really coming up. Any recent reports anyone want to share, OK lake or Skaha?

I’ve been sidetracked with a shoulder separation so I haven’t been fishing much. Went out for a few hours on Wednesday to see how I’d handle launching the boat by myself and went 5-12. Couldn’t keep ‘em hooked. Everything was on a small bucktail on the surface on the planer.

Oh bummer. Hope you heal quickly!
The planer technology certainly makes a lot of sense. Hadn’t used one before. Panic built 2 before the Shuswap derby a few weeks back.

Makes sense to get away from wash of the boat when the fish are so shallow.

I have been curious what guys mean by “on the surface”. This is a direct bucktail, no weight. Literally a foot or two from the top? Or 10 feet down ?

It’s a challenging time to fish when you aren’t in the know as the finder rarely marks any fish being targeted as they are so high up.

tried a lot of different things for these “surface” fish without a lot of luck.

Also appears an extra pile of line out can help dramatically as it gives time for the for the fish to return to behind the boat.

I have had some luck mid summer on this lake but still struggling with these spring conditions.

thanks for the input.

When I say surface it’s usually in the top 20ft. Then it just depends on how much weight I gotta use to get the depth I want. Sometimes it’s a bucktail with braid. Sometimes it’s a weighted bucktail with braid. Sometimes it’s a bucktail with braid an 1oz weight. Sometimes it’s leadcore. It varies everyday. When I leave the dock, I have 2 rods for the rigger, 2 rods with 20lb braid/12lb Fluoro leader, then 4 rods with leadcore in all different lengths. And it changes hourly sometimes.

haha. Thank you !

I seem to be doing similar things. Just not as frequent and with less success.

It will come. Again I appreciate your help!

Tight lines my man. If I see you out there I’ll swing by and bird dog your setup. Lol

As long as you don’t follow my gear like this guy. Pretty sure he was drafting my board.

what boat are you running?
