Just got back from Port Eliza on our annual group trip for 4 days. Really good fishing in my opinion vs forum land. Limited out on springs and coho up in Esperanza on the inside mostly Rosa. Our springs were 12-17lbs range with cohos 6-9lb range. Today we fished Camel Rock on way back for few hours, and it produced well for our group of boats. Except mine LOLOL.
Fish Gods said you’ve got enough!

One thing forgot too add. I recommend guys use caution coming back into Esperanza in early AM if your not running radar.

It was fogged in yesterday in morning. Thankfully I run radar and went through the out going guide boats heading out. Had a few boats do some 90 degree moves obvously lost front of us. Was a bit hairy....

Was all good though. Here are some photos.

First day on the water with the Moutcha rental boat. Four of us in the boat and we came up 2 short of our Chinook limit. Most from 12-15 lbs with a few smaller ones. Most picked up at Camel Rock, and first and last at Hisnit on the way out and in. Put in the time though, a solid 12 hours on the water. Couldn't sleep well last night and was awake from 2am, so fished on 3 hours sleep or so. We're satisfied for a bunch of newbies with the catch, hopefully tomorrow is similar or better as we figure things out. Spoons with white behind a red flasher seemed the most consistently productive, but caught a couple on hoochies too and the largest of the day was on a 5" white, tooth nawed second hand plug running naked.

Fishing has heated up on the Esperanza area. The recent rain seems to have been just right, not enough to have the fish speed by but enough to pull some fresh ones in. Some really nice fresh fish at Sandstone and Rosa. The South wind has pushed a lot of weeds in though making Rosa, pin rocks and Garden tough at times. We did have a 30 lb fish and some other bigger fish show up lately. Congratulations to young Hudson on his first Tyee! 20220814_101002.jpg

Second day was definitely slower for us today. 1 small one in the morning, and a few that got off here and there throughout the day. Day was somewhat redeemed by a double header at Camel Rock around 5pm, that ended up with another lost fish for me and a 25.5 lb for my buddy that got him on the board at Moutcha in 3rd place.

Great time to be fishing in Esperanza. Sunny skies, light winds, plenty of Chinook around at Sandstone and the inside inlet spots. Lots of coho around now, and some really good bottom fishing with the light winds. Our fish processing crew is busy! Get out here and experience west coast fishing at its best! 20220815_150800.jpg

Just got back from a quick three day trip to Nootka. We started with fishing all the outside classic spots. It was a slow start a lot of weeds from lighthouse to wash rock and further.
We crossed over to birdwood for the second day. Coho was easy to get our six. Then we went inland and picked up our Chinook. We just found a wall with bait and bounced bottom. Our lucky spoon for spring was a kripple kc herring air.
Third day we started at camel. We figured it would be a good morning bite. We were the first boat to get lines in the water. Bang bang bang bang. We got our four Chinook by 630am Released one so we could fish a bit more. Then got our final fish a couple hours later.
If I were to go again, I'd start my morning at camel as early as legal. Then go to the outside and target coho. Night bite was also good for us everywhere but only the last hour seemed to produce, so you had to stick it out. We had three guys and we all got our limits with decent Chinooks and coho and release at least 20 decent coho. What an awesome trip.

Calm winds means a bottom fishing day! Lots of halibut today and a 32lb ling cod. Esperanza has some productive offshore areas for bottom fish. Salmon were tougher today, there are lots around but the area has been inundated with floating weeds. Rosa has been unfishable most of the time due to the floating weeds, but there are fish there. Even Sandstone was weeded out today and it usually never is. 20220820_152621.jpg

Sandstone was beyond weedy, but they are there.

Finally was able to get my Daughter and boyfriend out fishing this year. It’s been a couple long years since they last visited Nootka. I was very excited to meet my 6 month old Grandfur Baby (Sailor) for the first time too. They also brought a dummy flasher from Rupert too try on one side of the boat with my favourite colors and it came as advertised.

Fishing was decent inside around 3 bay and the Look out. Burwood had tons of small Coho and a few springs kicking around too.Boat never left the dock before 7am as it was very hard to get the crew out of bed. My Daughters only complaint about the trip was that we never encountered any “Combat Fishing” Well i made sure that we made it too Saratoga Speedway last night for the epic crash to pass boat race. What a great way to end a great trip.

Dick is looking great, say hi to him , from Steve and my son Ryan

I'm heading out to Esperanza in a couple of days. Is Rosa still covered in weeds or is that clearing up now?
We were in Nootka last week and experienced the weeds. Had me thinking there must be a way to combat them as the fishing was hot while we could keep our gear clean.

Maybe try something like this weed straw

Still a wider spread then most of our boats. I like the idea but I'd end up running over my lines everytime I turned.

Might be trickier if you pod that thing
You're probably bang on there, on both fronts.

I was right in weeds when I caught all my springs at Rosa. Seems like that is where they were. I picked up more when I stopped checking my lines every 5 minutes.

Kelp beds and weeds they seem to like.
