Because it’s called SPORT fishing. Sockeye can be great sportfish on light tackle. Many just want to meat fish in this sockeye fishery, and that’s fine, but so is trying to maximize the fun!

Caught a 42 lb on 12 lb test with a spinning reel and 300 ft of line at Beechy Head June 21/1981 trolling.

tough go for us at sandheads yesterday. fished 11 to 6 and only got 2 sox. highlight of the day though was boating a 13lb marble spring. kinda made up for the slow sockeye fishing.

Everything was out deep 450-600 fishing 60 and 65 on the DRS. Straight off T10 but looked like there was action all the way North from there.

Went out for a solo fish today to SA. Lost 2 but still got my limit of 4 sox. purple and green setup 50-70 ft.

Great reports, everyone, thanks and keep them coming! I'm a few days and a root canal away from being out again on Friday, can't wait...It has been an amazing season and the summer has flown by. Thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge and experience, it has been an amazing year on the waters. Still to come are more days out on local waters, a trip up to Dent Sept 5 to 8 to see if there are any slabs left around (often they're gone), a final run up to the Sunshine Coast over the weekend of the 15th and then the fire fighter's derby on Sept 21. Cheers!

Hmm, haven't heard anything like that. Not sure why they would close it now.

Limits by 1 pm. No blue and not anywhere near the pack. Lost one screamer.

Test sets have been grim, they are worried about the adams river run. Dont be surprised if they close it soon.
