Pachena Bay / Bamfield / Barkley Sound

Heading to Pachena Bay for the last week of July. We'll be taking my 14' tinned with a 30hp outboard. The beam is about 5.5' so it is a fairly safe boat, but I expect we'll be mostly sticking within the sound. We've never fished the area, but we are decently experienced at fishing. Just looking or some general info on the area. Is it worth bringing prawn or crab traps? Any lures work better than most in the area? Places to avoid, places to favour. Hoping to have the boat moored somewhere in Bamfield. Thanks for all and any info. Cheers

Just fish harbour entrance and anywhere along the wall to Poetts Nook and you should catch fish and be safe in that boat. If the water is calm there are lots of good spots not far away

Not sure why you would go all the way to bamfield, just outside the bay in the surf can be deadly, seabird island too, pachena point all right there,I use to go there from bamfield lol, just a hint I fish from Renfrew and make the run from there, different reason, the bay itself can be good if bait around

Can you launch a boat at pachena bay?

You may be able to put that boat into the river at Pachena. Have a look near the entrance to the campground.
I’ve launched a little 14 ft fibreglass into the river there but that was many years ago.
