2012 Vancouver, Howe sound and Sunshine coast reports thread

Sunday boxed 9,12,13,15, 20 lbs chinooks - 4 red 1 marble. 3 had small/firecracker herring and 2 had either empty stomach or so digested you couldn't tell - one red chinook was hatch so will be cool to see where is originated

Where were you fishing? Must have been t-10/south.. We fished from 545 am until 845 along west van and Nada then moved into the mile markers/ bell for another 4 hours and lost 1 small fish at the boat. Seemed really slow. Saw a few hook ups for a lot of boats out there!! Made the wrong call I guess..

No, at that fuel burn I am too cheap to go to T 10 and south without first checking things closer to
home. I was in the harbour too but stayed off the 'pack'

Fished yesterday along west van. Had a couple good strikes in front of the pink apartments where I found a huge concentration of bait and Coho. Couldn't get them to stick, drove me crazy! Sure seed to be a lot of fish in there but not many willing biters. All the action was on hootchies. Also lost a crab pot I dropped near the McDonald's barge. It's got my name and number on it, Rob Godfrey, if anybody finds it. White and red buoy with weighted line.

Heading to pender harbour all next week, plan to troll for salmon, and maybe some bottom fishing as well....any recent reports for the area???... any suggested locations/hot spots???

thanks in advance,

Matt

thanks guys!

I believe bjerre shoal is located along the coast, just south of pender harbour...no??

sangster i have heard of but, not sure of the location

Finally got time to add some photos from Sunday - not sure whether the abundance of crab, the good fishing or finding this seal belly up prior to fishing gave me more joy ! The huge seal was floating just northwest of Atkinson..... I thought of putting a shark hook and rope onto it and towing through the pack at the Bell just to see the reaction. :D!!!

Yes sangster is on the south end of lasqueti, havent heard a lot of action there and its a fair run from pender.
and yes its jsut south of pender, but probably worth the run... another spot which has been fishing good the past 2 weeks is the pilings on texada right across from pender

Nice work Greg!

Fished the S arm, T10, Point Grey and the Bell , with nothing worth taking home.
Had four knock offs with no solid hook ups.
When fish were located the bite was on but it was tough finding them and had to cover a lot of water.
Lots of seals around so I guess the Black fish (Orcas) have left our waters for awhile.
Saw jumpers at the south arm, socks I figure.
Good luck out there boys !
Clint
PS Nice catch Peahead , now thats catchin instead of fishin LOL

That catch and release derby sounds goofy. How long would one have to wait for an Official's boat to locate you and measure the fish??And what if 6 fish are called in within minutes of another??Might as well call it a BONK an release derby..Just my opinion..

This will be one to keep an eye on for sure, I wish them the best of luck and hope it goes off without a hitch. This way perhaps more derbies may spring up in the future as they are more "politicaly correct". I'm sure we will be hearing from those that claim the fish will die anyway or be caught upstream by native nets etc.

nice day Peahead....
thanks for the pics,
and yes we need a few thousand more seals like that.
a few grams of lead in the side of the head works great.

Peahead, what gear did you catch them all on?? teaer head/flasher style??? no reports.......did nobody hit the water today???

Saw the pod of orca's a couple days back off Howe Sound Pulp and Paper, Port Mellon. My co-worker counted over 10 and they were working the shoreline in the protected bays east of the mill. Lots of thrashing on the surface. We've never seen them up this way in 20+ years working here. There is a huge transient population of boom riding seal's up here so hopefully they thinned it out! Other than that fishing has been sloooooow over here on the lower end of the Sunshine Coast with tons of bait showing recently and no fish to report.
