2012 Vancouver, Howe sound and Sunshine coast reports thread

I will be out for the evening fish tomorrow night. Will report upon my return!

They have 2 weigh boats per sector. The cap and west van up to the fisheries is off limit to keep pressure off that area. You are supposed to "call in" soon as you have a fish on the line that you think you might want weighed. You can still retain fish, if you dont count them for the derby, but limits still apply. I think that with 30 boats entered, it should end up working fine. I will let you all know after the derby. I am excited about it.

This will be one to keep an eye on for sure, I wish them the best of luck and hope it goes off without a hitch. This way perhaps more derbies may spring up in the future as they are more "politicaly correct". I'm sure we will be hearing from those that claim the fish will die anyway or be caught upstream by native nets etc.

Thanks for comments guys - it was a hoot for sure. As far as the derby Dave, I would be somewhat interested especially the social aspects, and the cause . I have already committed this weekend to cruising back and forth to Sunshine Coast with friend/family and vsiting family. My 7 year old will likely also spend her first night on the hook or at moorage. Fishing this weekend for me may be catch and release, like the derby but for shiners !! To a kid, Shiners are like slabs to us ! .... AND you never get skunked !! ....lol.
LS - chovies/flasher, however one was on a 6" tomic plug which was a blast!

Hi Stones, according to the map for the derby it is just closed from the cap to 25th st. which would make the fishery station area open.
cheers Nicnat
ps hope to see some of you out there gl.

Last night was slow. Released a 4 pound jack around 7:00pm and that was it aside from some shakers. Didn't see anybody with a fish. Hopefullly it picks up today.

was out a few hours this morning and had a hit early on a bit west of the bell at around 60 ft on an anchovy, but lost it right by the boat.. Looked to be in low 10s. Other than that, just a few shakers. hope others had better luck.

I am heading out to the T10 or Bellbouy on Friday morning. By the looks of this forum it looks pretty freaking slow out there. Any other new fishing reports?

Was just in Horseshoe Bay having a snack before getting the ferry en route to Tofino and David Korsch/ Predator came in with some guests with just two smaller fish. From the distance I couldn't tell if they were smaller springs or coho.

Lots of shakers working the beaches along English Bay on the flood-more than I've ever seen in more than 30 years of living here.

Out today off west van, cap to point Atkinson. No hits for me. Ran white glow hoochies between 60 and 40 feet. Marked some fish near the mouth of the cap but that was it. I was fishing mid tide so that might explain the no hits. Didn't see any nets out in the 5 hours I was there.

I was out monday, fished hard from 9-5 2 long line releases and 2 dogs along west van seen a little 12' tinny double out and leave.
heard of a couple high teen low 20's takenon a troll between bell and t10
