2012 Vancouver, Howe sound and Sunshine coast reports thread

Was out this morning with Eriks from the Forum. Must have been a 100 boats out off the Cap and Ambelside. Very few fish caught. Saw a couple right at the tide change. We had two 55cm Springs and lost one. A lot cooler out there today with the marine cloud.

A 22lber won the Firefighter derby. Wasn't much action. A few decent fish, but pretty quiet out there from what my brother told me.

Sandheads, cold and windy in the morning, calmed down in the afternoon.
Fishing slow, caught a 5" herring on a 6" anchovy.
Got this toothy monster on a fresh 5" herring.

Took my tour group to Prospect Point lookout this AM as usual-they loved seeing the manoeuvres boats in the pack were doing-plus I showed them a Seal following a boat for even more thrills (!)

Morgan.....you should stay on the derby circuit!!! You're doing well!!

Had 2 fish on at the cap yesterday. Got sealed with the first one. Took my gear with it as well. Stupid seal! Lost the second one after a brief fight. Never got to see it. Didn't feel very big. My buddy got a 25lber around 6pm last night off the pink apartment.

Sounds like the very large powerboat that decided to drift fish right in the middle of the pack off the mouth of the Cap this a.m. ... idiot!

Good morning today ... went out solo and dropped the lines shortly after 7am, boxed a 19 lb and a 17 lb and left for home not long after 9am. Also had what looked to be a mid 20's break off (note to self ... check the leader after every fish). All were right on bottom with anchovies.

Sandheads.
During the morning Orca show, landed a nice 17lb wild Coho.
Landed 2 more Coho at the end of the day one small hatchery.
Everything on anchovy didn't see much else. Slow fishing, but great weather

was out for the high slack today. Tons of boats out as usual. Got one mud shark down in the mud on an anchovy. Seen two fish hooked and that was it. Heard of a few caught earlier in the morning. Nice day out on the water.

Caught a 17lb wild with orcas in sight, after that I trolled for 6 hours with nothing, then boating 2 just before heading in.

NOTHING TODAY, no big hits, saw bait on the sounder but no fish.

A friend was at Tsawwassen and had 2 limits of hatch Coho in 4 hours. Top 40' of water, cut plug. 4oz banana out fished the riggers.

We where out near the cap yesterday, must of been 200 boats circling. We saw two fish boated that looked decent. We caught a spring just under legal (Let go off course) off the pink appartments with the downrigger set to 12feet. Tons of fish jumping and swimming at the surface around the pink appartments but none of them biting. At times they where so close to the boat I could have used the net to catch them. Anybody have a tip on getting these fish to bite? We tried everything, anchovy, hoochies, and spoons...

I was out at west van yesterday too and I saw all those fish in the shallows. I tried all afternoon to get one of them to bite but no luck.

I finally found a few takers around 6pm closer to the mouth in 100-120 feet of water dragging chovies on the bottom. Got into 5 fish in half an hour, kept one barely legal jack spring. Lost 2 that I didn't see and released two coho right at the boat trying to net them. Damn it's hard to play a fish, net a fish and steer a boat all by yourself in that current! Not to mention the 7ft leaders making it damn near impossible to get them up along side within reach of the net.

Oh well, I guess those 2 coho that got away will go to the natives. I'm happy to have one small spring for the bbq.

Nice job TS. Now that the Tuna brew-haha is over (for me) this year, maybe I can grab that net for you and give you a hand. I'll bring the Toro!

I was thinking about just drifting and letting them jump into the boat :) Good for you! We took off around three so I guess we should have stuck it out a little longer. I will be attempting to do the solo fish next sunday as well. Have never tried but it sounds like a challange!
