What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

Replaced a burnt bearing. Happy to have learned from a good buddy, now I have all the tools. Throwing them in a tool box for this weekend trip along with an extra set of bearings and a seal. Hopefully have time to pack the bearings before I leave but running out of time!!! Ordered a spare pre-assembled hub, so I’ll be extra prepared for future trips.

Pre-pack the spare bearings and vacuum seal them to a piece of cardboard. Saves a lot of time when you lost a tire on the side of the road lol.
 
Had the man the myth the legend @tigerprawn finished the commissioning of my engine. Showed me I had my sea star on the bottom not the top of my engine steer bar. Tied into the lowrance network now and rewired my starboard side downrigger from my start battery, where I have my pot pulled mounted to my house battery on the port side. Also replaced the Scotty plug as I was burning fuses like an Hornby Islander burned roaches in the 90’s.

Used my dewalt tire inflated to bring the spare from 11lb to 55lbs this morning. Packed the trailer repair kit. Now need to pack some clothing, bedding and Gretzky jersey for my Bamfield trip in a few minutes!

2025 Haul Out Complete!

I got through most of it last weekend, with a few items remaining in the cabin now that it’s back in the water. I used for the first time a Milwaukee M18 random orbital sander with dust collector port and a HEPA shop vac to sand the hull; it was a game changer for sure. For sanding disks, Lee Valley was by far the most competitive on price and selection. Half a gallon of Trilux ll left over from last year was enough for 2 coats.

I left my trim tabs bare this time around. The barrier coat/trilux ll doesn’t do much to keep the mussels from taking over, other than adding to the amount of stuff to remove. This way I can just scrape them with a stainless steel scraper once in a while and scuff with a brown scotchbrite pad.

Load test of the (2) Group 31 batteries passed easily at 5 years old. They don’t see any load other than when under way, so I suppose that’s to be expected.

Both engines serviced including engine/filter and gear case oil. I replaced the low pressure fuel filters as well as the Racor S3227 element. The addition of the Racor in year 2 was a really good decision.

I still haven’t managed to get any speakers installed and connected to the head unit, maybe tomorrow.

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m special (I’m not!), but over the years Inlet Marine has been really helpful with sourcing parts and supplies and especially their flexibility on scheduling and skill with the marine lifts (they have 2 now to speed things up). I only ever hear good things, and I can certainly parrot those good experiences.
 
Very talented friend/fabricator did this radar arch, bait cleaning table (perfect to drop in 3/4" UHMW board) and welded rigger mount pads.

If anyone is interested in getting work like that done I can provide his info, works out of his shop in Nanaimo. As an idea for anyone interested, the arch is about ~$3k, completely custom.
