Is that cable not adjustable in length? You’re gonna be doing left turns with ease but going right is gonna be a struggle. I’ve always made my kicker slightly over turned so it offsets the side that the kicker is on. Don’t put it perfectly straight. Make it slightly turning to the right. With technical assistance from Ship Happens on this site, I installed the Seastar kicker cable tiebar but just need to tweek the motors to line them up a little better so they track the same if that’s even possible
make sure you grease the tilt tube on the kicker often. I have had this set up for years and on a Yamaha at least it wants to seize in the kicker tube. I bought a stainless tube brush and chuck it in the drill and run it through the tube until clean and re grease every season. I also check the ease of operation every time before I launch. I was dumped off in Port Renfrew one time and the steering was seized. I had to force the main engine to turn destroying the thin SS rod on the tie system. With technical assistance from Ship Happens on this site, I installed the Seastar kicker cable tiebar but just need to tweek the motors to line them up a little better so they track the same if that’s even possible
Good question, I haven’t figured it out yet if the cable length is adjustable on the kicker side, hopefully someone with more experience on the site can let me know, thanks. Is that cable not adjustable in length? Thanks for that advice, will definitely check and grease the tilt tube often.make sure you grease the tilt tube on the kicker often. If you’re using it regularly and you lubed it well at the beginning and end of season it’s usually ok. Its when it sits that the risk of seizing seems to occur. Just lube the **** outta it before you park it for the winter. Thanks for that advice, will definitely check and grease the tilt tube often.
Would I need to drill a new hole more towards the powerhead to shorten the stroke a little? There’s only the one hole at the moment. The cable length is not adjustable I believe how you square the kicker up is where the hole is on the little tongue that comes out the front of the kicker where the bar attaches
Will do thank you, it will stored in my new shop most of the time when it’s not on the water. If you’re using it regularly and you lubed it well at the beginning and end of season it’s usually ok. Disconnect it from the 1 hole it is in. Manually turn the motor to where it is lined up with the main and see where a hole would need to be drilledWould I need to drill a new hole more towards the powerhead to shorten the stroke a little? There’s only the one hole at the moment.
I do see now that the steering arm on the kicker has a couple bends in it. I will take it off and straighten in the vise between 2 pieces of wood to lengthen it a little to straightenadjust the kicker position…The cable length is not adjustable

My arm connects to the kicker in a hole more toward the kicker cowling. Mine has 2 holes and the closer one to the motor is where it is locatedI do see now that the steering arm on the kicker has a couple bends in it. Interesting, do you have a picture? My arm connects to the kicker in a hole more toward the kicker cowling. Mine has 2 holes and the closer one to the motor is where it is located
