WD40...any comment?

Wow it must be officially winter! I guess the argument about wd40 is not really about the volume of oil put in the water , but about whether as a sport fisherman you truly care about the environment . There are lots of examples out there of people/machines that are putting oil into the water but the argument that you are going to intentionally pollute to catch more fish doesn't really wash with me. I think if you are truly concerned about fish stocks and all the other issues that face us and the ocean you need to take a degree of responsibility.

Had a funny experience teaching my nephew how to drive the other day. I was preaching about how you have to come to a full stop at a stop sign then proceed and he turned to me and said "you don't and neither does anyone else". too true. I guess what I am trying to say is that sport fisherman need to lead and teach by example.

Meatwagon says
"Millions of people are soaked in wd40 everyday. Workin in shops and industrial equipment. I wouldn't go drinking it 'sept for the wisers deluxe' but to say its going to destroy everything in its path is retarded "
Hey we have all washed up with gasoline and used toxic crap without wearing gloves , but ask any doctor about where toxins absorbed by your skin goes straight to your liver and kidneys. I don't know about you guys but mine are already getting a workout without adding more strain on them!

Come on guys. WD40 is fish oil, not a petroleum product.

Somebody's not reading the whole thread :o

Not only are they (Theb55) not reading this whole thread, which contains a fantastic amount of accurate information with links to source documents, but they are repeating urban legends and unsubstantiated rumours. Unfortunately, this is all too common, which is why there is so much misinformation out there in general. These days there is really no need for these false assertions to float around any more, as we all have access to the huge wealth of knowledge on the Internet and it is possible to check up on the veracity of any so-called "fact".

Goddamn FH That one was burnt into the mind from the last time I saw it... Thanks for freshening it up for me:D

Next someone is going to suggest WD does not stand for water displacement and 40 was their 40th iteration. I was up to par on the original product. It was never intended as a lubricant, only a water displaced. Great on spark plug wires, not connections. I suspect the formula has changed over the 40 plus years it has been around. Sorry.

Then those guys with 2 stroke motors are living on borrowed time. Remember the smoke and oil residue they left behind. I would guess one engine deposits more oil into the ocean and air in one hour than all those who WD40 deposit all year. Nevertheless, thanks for heads up and I will not use it on my halibut bait. Not really any more effective than other scents.
