Theft at marinas

I am considering getting a slip for my fishing boat. I have an enclosed cabin so I can lock some fishing gear up. For those of you who have a lot of years mooring at marinas around vancouver, can you let me know how common petty theft is such as stolen fishing gear stored on your boat, stolen kickers, stolen downriggers, break ins to a locked cabin to steal electronics and gear etc.... just curious if some folks can tell me how many years they've been Moored and whether they've had any incidences with theft. Thanks.

Comes down to where you moore at , Really ive found it quite safe make thing visable with locks A thief will walk down and see riggers with no locks cabins with no locks he wants quick easy in and out

I've had one break in where they hit all of false creek. Those guys spent a night in my boat. The only other thing I've ever had stolen was a set of cannon balls. Probably a fisherman who screwed up one day and didn't have any spares. Like others have said, any kind of deterrent helps like cable locks. I've been mooring for around 15 years

Make them work for it. Most are lazy and opportunist. Although, years ago many boats at Granville island had their old kickers missing one morning. Everyone thought that was odd that the newer kickers were untouched. Well, a month later, after insurance replaced the old motors with new ones, the crooks returned for the new loot. Later, we found out the crooks didn’t take the old motors in the first place. They just unhooked them and dropped them off the back of the boats knowing new ones would be waiting for them when they came back.
