WD40...any comment?

I use it all the time especially when fishing plugs in the Columbia river mostly just to clean them after switching plugs don't want the sardine wrap stinking them up hey Charlie was that you in Auburn sports the other day ?

Careful you don't get a hint of WD40 on the downrigger release clip clamp end or you just about have to throw em away!!
Tight lines kronic

I know it is one of the two tools that all men need. The other being duct tape.

If it moves and shouldn't... use the duct tape.
If it doesn't move and should... use the WD40.

Tips

I don't know how true it is but I was told that WD40 is made with shark oil and that is why WD40 is used as a fish attractant. I have used it in the past but can't really say if it made any difference. I was also told that if you rub WD40 into your skin where you have arthritis that it will help to reduce the pain.
The official WD40 web site list the following uses for fishing but it doesn't say it helps to catch fish....lol.

I like the cool prism effect in the water as it floates on the surface. Why do you think that is?[:0]

Fish oil

I watched Charles White fishing videotape a decade ago. He put his fishing lure into the inboard engine box that had oil and saltwater mixture and threw it out in the water...trolling...got a fish!

Done that too. definatley works. As far as Ive heard and not sure that WD-40 is a lubricant as much as a solvent but any petroleum based lubes will work and its the amino acids in them that trigger the fish..... from what Ive heard

WD-40 was originally developed as an arthritis "cure" but could not pass health regulations. It was then marketed as a lubricant. It attracts fish because it is herring oil based. I use it on my downrigger wire to displace water after rinsing. I've also soaked a Zzinger with and had great success for bottom fish.

If you know anyone with bad arthritis, get them to rub some WD-40 on their hands to see if it makes any difference.

From my experience it really sticks to your lure/bait for quite a while. It almost milks a cloud just like a roe bag does in a river.

I tend to use it more for doucing my hands. This prevents human scent or pheromones to be recognized by predatory species of fish.

I guided for many years and I didn't rely on it always but there were definitely times( we've all had them) where I needed to have every trick in my corner to get the skunk out of the boat. I used this trick when something extra special was needed.

Good Luck

i am pretty sure this was covered in depth last yr, but i would not use it on any scotty product or plastics as it will help in deteriation, and it is not a lube pursay, just a helper in losesing things up, i am sure some of the regulars can help clear this up

We did indeed discuss this in depth before , and I have used it on my Scotty downriggers with no ill effect for over 10 years.
