Flasher Question?

I use a quick release clip to release the line from the back of the flasher. On the rare occasion I hook a salmon, this takes the flasher out of the fight.

I considered something like this but I thought I wouldn’t be able to take up all the slack in the line after I sent the gear down on the downrigger. I figured cranking down on it in the rod holder would take the action out of the flasher. How do you deal with this issue?

I row, so no rigger. The front clip of the flasher is still attached to the line. There is only about an inch of slack that pops when the fish strikes. The flasher dangles free, so no resistance.

OK; I misunderstood thinking it was a dummy flasher. Which brings up another question: do you have the flasher and leader to your bait attached to the same lead swivel with the leader line clipped at the back of the flasher so when the fish pops the clip the flasher just dangles?

The one on the left is for non-spinning lures like hoochies. You clip leader and flasher together. Allowing you to easily adjust the leader length. On the right I have a short leader with a swivel for anything that spins.

Thanks; that's kind of how I imagined it after you explained you weren't on a downrigger. The one on the right appears to be rigged so it could be used for lures with or without action; the line that releases is just a bit longer than the flasher and has a swivel to attach any leader and lure/bait to.
