Victoria reports - spring/summer 09

Porcupine nice job on the derby. Lance was a teacher of mine way back and a hell of a nice guy. Its good to know he can still pull fish. Good on you guys with your 12 ft boats. I heard Boomer lit it up at the breakwater yesterday, so there are a few around.

Tournament Proven !

Hey guys, good reading in here. I'm a newbie, after fishing for many years on someone else's boat from the south island all the way up to Rupert. I finally bought myself a new ship, so I need lots of help I'm finding haha!!

Hopefully see you out there, I'll be the one trying to figure out how to tie a knot, where I am and how to catch em. :D

Some nice winter Springs in the 10-15lb class mixed in with the wee ones.
100-140' on the flats, needlefish squirts..
I think we are in for an outstanding fall/winter fishery :D

We stung Clover point from dawn till 9:30 had a 20lb halibut chasing a ling I had on in 60 feet of water right of the point but lost him. Got to try out the Navionics charts on the IPhone in that lovely fog ,boy that is a nice app. Ran down to Brochie and stung the breakwater for an hour and then dropped the riggers and picked up some small ones and a few pinks but my riggers cable seems to be shot as two cannon balls are now down off the green can so its off to get braided line this week for both riggers. Great day out there despite the fog and rotten cable.

Any new info, my father is coming down for some fishing and I haven't been out for awhile? Thanks...:D

it is slow slow slow [V]

is anyone hitting the big springs locally anymore or are they gone?

might be time to switch to winter springs according to previous posts

Usually when you see the feeders arrive in numbers, the big boys are just about finished.
I'm sure there will be the odd big one around, but for the most part I think its just about done.

I fished it hard yesterday and only had one juvenile spring to show for it. I didn't even mark any big spirngs on my sounder. There were some big ones earlier in the week, Dave Simpson landed a 38 3/4 on Wednesday, but after the rain Wednesday night it appears that the fish moved on. It should be an afternoon bite if there are any fish around.

Boated four on thursday 32,25.5,18.5 and 17 two coho and two pinks the fish are there .The stomac are tight , you just keep putting it in there face . good luck

Boomer - nice work on those. Any more details?

I want to get out there this weekend - where should I go? Yellow Can? Flats?

Thanks

While fishing at the breakwater yesterday evening, I saw what appeared to be a crab trap float without identification slowly drifting along in a westerly direction. To prevent anyone from getting hung up on it, when I was finished fishing for the evening, I retrieved the unidentified float, line and trap which appears to have been adrift for quite some time. If anyone wishes to identify your lost set-up, you're welcome to come and pick it up.
