You guys are in the wrong pond, should be under Oak Bay!. Victoria report generaly should be esquimalt to Trial and beyond out to constance. Anyways the Breakwater should be good any day now.

This thread is to discuss spring summer fishing off Victoria -- approximately 10mi Point to Race Rocks including Constance Bank. How'd you do, where were you, and any other secrets you're willing to share .

Anyone hitting pinks off Victoria yet (e.g. S. of Constance or racon buoy) ? I'll be taking some folks out new to salmon fishing on Saturday...would be fun for them (:) me too)

Westcap19 There were lots of pinks from about one mile before the yellow marker all the way to west Constance on Monday morning (flood tide). Easy limit for three people from 7:15 am to 9:15 am - depths were 35' to 90', one hatchery coho otherwise only pinks. A couple friends were out the next day and they were scarce. Orcas were by both Monday and Tuesday.

Thanks for the information Rob. Hope we hit them. Taking a fellow from England out, and he is itching for a salmon. I tooks his Dad out in June and got a couple of teenagers on the flats--he sent pics to his son and so out he came[:0]!

Here is a picture of Norm Smith with his 46 lb spring. I've heard that it was caught off clover point, no......... the breakwater, no..... Esquimalt, no...... albert Head. I'm sure that he caught it in the mouth.

That spring is HUGE!! We got out this morning off the waterfront for a couple hours and hit 8 pinks just outside the yellow buoy. Bigger than the ones we got last week. ROugh out there though and we only got them trolling West which was the most uncomfortable angle. It was a little spotty. Anyway they hit the usual gear - red hootch - red flasher - 40ft to 70ft on the rigger. There were a few other guys out there too...not sure how they were making out as we were just outside them.

Pretty quiet for Springs on the flats this week...
managed a few chicken halibut up to about 24 lbs while trolling
for Springs.

Does anyone know where the 46 lb spring was caught? What's happening on the flats and the Gap, anything?

cby

The 46lb was caught somewhere between Clover and the breakwater[B)] big secret apparently. The Gap and Flats have been slow with only the occasional fish getting caught. Hopefully it will pick up soon!!!

I think i saw you on the flats Poppa, guiding on one of the "Killer
Beas " boats ??
Nothing for me, lots of doggies if you're using bait. :(

your post got nuked ?

I heard today that the 46 lb spring really was caught at Clover Point, on anchovy, at 100 feet. Nice going Captain Smith.

I hear that the jigging for springs has picked up in Oak Bay. How's the trolling been?

We were out a few short trips this week to Oak Bay. Jigging in the Gap resulted in a couple of doggies. We managed to pick up a couple of springs between 10 and 12 pounds trolling the flats on plastic.

Finally some more fish around. Picked up a high twenty last night in front of the harbour. 50ft on anchovie. Aweesome scrap. Whale watchers stopped and filmed the entire fight.

Put the gear down and 10 minutes later hooked another. But a guide (will not name it) boat was tailin me hard and lost it in his gear. He did try to get out of the way but best bet is to give lots of room to other fishermen while trolling this time of year. At least I didnt feed the pack of seals swimming around out there.

Congrats dawntodusk , nice fish. A friendly reminder to those new to fishing the Ogden breakwall , please keep the breakwall on your starbord side when trolling (counter clockwise rotation) it makes it a lot easier on everyones sanity and gear.

It's a big ocean out there, let's all try to give each other some space!
