The Clover Point Anglers' Derby ended today without too much happening this morning. I was fortunate to take first place with a 30 lb 13 oz spring caught by the breakwater. Lance Foreman was second with a 28 lb 10 oz spring, also caught by the breakwater. Lance also caught a 23 lb 6 oz spring there as well. Third place went to Gerry Vervoort for a 19 lb 6 oz spring. Gerry was hoping to make it 3 years in a row as derby winner, but that's how the cookie crumbles! Everyone had a good time, although it was pretty rough for our 12 foot boats early this morning, what with the ebb tide and the westerly winds. Thank you to all of you who gave our little boats a little distance and not too much wake. All in all, we did pretty well, considering we would have taken 2nd and 3rd in the Esquimalt Anglers derby. Anyway, there is a good run of big white springs around, but don't expect them to stay too long.
