Vancouver Moorage

CCB, are you confusing Burrard Civic with Reed Point?

Just a little FYI here.

Vanier Park boat launch to the Bell Bouy marker: 5 nautical miles

Vanier Park to Capilano River: 3 nautical miles

McDonald Beach boat launch to the end of the North Arm: 5 nautical miles

Milltown Marina to the end of the North Arm: 6 nautical miles

End of North Arm to the Bell Bouy: 2 nautical miles

Bell bouy to Cap River: 5 nautical miles

Like all things, there's pluses and minuses. Burrard may be closer to certain spots but your in the salt water were in the river your in fresh water but you have that river to contend with.

Spent a Summer moored up in the river when I first bought the 2359. Wanted to save money, and thought the fresh water would be nicer for the boat, no growth and a fresh water rinse for the motor. I hated it and the wife really hated it. We spent way more in fuel, had repair bill due to all the dead heads, at some point one will be unseen. The view alone in and out of false creek each trip is worth it.

I'm currently moored at Burrard Marina and have a dirty stern after only 1 month (tried to post a video on the GoPro thread but it's currently waiting for a moderators approval?). I'm arranging to have it moored in the freshwaters of Vancouver Marina in Richmond. I love having it so close to work but after seeing what only 1 month has done to the underside of the boat, and who knows what's going on inside the motor, I'm more than anxious to get it out of there. You are right though, its a nice sight entering false creek after a long day of fishing.

BTW, here's the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45XPC-T_ljw

When was that vid taken and have had your boat there in the summer months when it's warmer. My boat was there for June or August I can't remember all I remember was the mess lol. Pros and cons to everything in this world.

Video was taken on Sunday after about a month in the water. No, this boat is new to me and has never been left in the water.

There is nothing wrong with that. That is normal. Get some bottom paint on there and there will be nothing on there.

The River will produce similar growth.

The River sucks....dodge that tug, dodge that native drift net, dodge that barge, oops....6 foot standing waves at the mouth on a NW with a peak ebb tide....er....didn't see that stump.....or log with a boom cable...lol.

I've experienced all those things you talk about F.M.! The 6 foot standing waves at the mouth can provide some serious "pucker" factor. Motor don't fail me now!! Dead heads that are barely visible, natives nets, yeah all true. I hit something the other year right at the end of the river that seriously bent the prop and scared the bejeezus out of me. I never did see what I hit. I thought it might have been a seal! Thank goodness I had a kicker which got me back to the launch an hour later. I think I needed wide open throttle to push me back up the river. So yeah, the river has some drawbacks!!

Website says available June 1, so just 4 months away.
Says under construction, its right behind my office bulding according the map, I'll go take a look next time I'm there.
I registered a long time ago, havent heard from them.

It is right behind my building. Look West as you cross the Arthur Lang.

Just got my contract, supposed to start September 1st.

Moorage I have found in Vancouver is annual. On the river it may be different, but, Milltown is definitely annual. BTW, no way that place is going to be done by June unless they're building it somewhere else and plan to drag docks and buildings in up the river.

Looked at it today, don't know how fast they can work, and I don't know much about construction, but the land (south) is pretty much untouched. There has been some rocks/earth built up in some places that could become what it looks like in the artwork I got in the mail, but its a long way from that. Where the drystack is supposed to go looks pretty much the same as it always has, (natural state?) I don' t think they're doing anything there yet. With my limited knowledge of construction speed, I'd say September 1st looks ambitious.

Hey Nick try to get into buarrd civic, we have a good crew who all fish out of there. Close to all the spots as well.

I just go into Burrard Civic last year. Mostly sailboats. My moored boat is in Clayquot all summer, but I've been back since September. Who all fishes out of B.C.?

Milltown just sent me their contract for dry stack as well. Its about the same cost as Burrard Civic. Usually Burrad Civic starts having vacancies in March/early April. Personally I believe dry stack is the better option. Never have to paint boat and worry about it taking on water if you're away for a while, but, Burrard Civic is much better located to get out to fishing grounds and for quick family trips and probably will save on fuel burn. Overall I'd say its the better choice.

I think I'll stick with Burrard Civic. The space I was given at Milltown looks a little easier to get into than my current spot at B.C., but I've also run out of the river from Mac Beach in my trailered boat several times. It can be a nice cruise, or Crappy. Only ever hit something twice, and with the outboard not hull, but not fun. Just avoiding that would keep me at Burrard Civic I think.
The milltown sheet I got does have both monthly and annual prices, but don't know if you can go monthly. For my moored boat Millton works out a little more expensive than Burrad Civic (by $36 annually) for inwater.

I had a main breakdown at 5:30pm on a fireworks night. had to come back on the kicker from Pt Atkinson through a huge fleet of boats anchored for the fireworks, with a bunch of boats moving about between them, in the dark as I got close. That wasn't fun. But not as scary as the river can be.

Received an Email reminding me that my space was reserved until March 15th, and that they have a waiting list.
I declined the space, staying at Burrard Civic this year, and moved to a better slip there.

So my space just opened up for anyone on the wait list.

I got the same thing; I doubt that there are many people on the waiting list. I got a spot for the summer in Ladner but I could have also easily gotten one in Richmond. Since there are spots available in nearby marinas, I think the demand is pretty low. I think they are going to have a hard time filling that boat shed. I am still on the fence about the dry stack thing, I find it pretty expensive and I find it poor form that I not only have to pay for length but also the high of the boat. Whose boat in the 22-26ft range is only 8 feet tall? My boat is around 10ft which makes an extra 70bucks so with taxes to store my 22ft boat I would pay 400 dollars/ month only available with an annual contract. In Ladner I am only paying 200/month on a 6months contract which is much better fit as there are so few nice winter fishing days that trailering makes more sense in the winter.

I recommend these guy’s offer a semi-annual option and drop the over height surcharge. I might be more inclined to sign the contract

Headed by the site of the new dryland marina on the North Arm Sunday-looks to be some dredging going on-if that is in fact the worksite not something else.

Im curious if anybody is signed up for moorage at Milltown the new marina on the north arm. I spent sometime at there booth at the boat show but am still undecided. It's too bad they don't offer seasonal moorage and there in water prices are pretty high compared to other river moorages.

I checked them out last night too, they are priced the same as where I am now at mosquito creek and have less
services, the creek includes hydro and fresh water, and has top of the line security,
milltown says they will be going to the fob system on their gates, but no mention of multiple cameras or the security gaurds we have now.
plus the float homes and the people that live in them there are also an added security
JMO

I talked to them last night too,but the guy i was talking to was new and i knew more about their dry storage rates than he did. I think mine would be $281.00 plus $35.00 for every foot I'm over 8' so probably $351.00, possibly $35.00 more, plus tax if I'm understanding it right? I like to go and play around on my boat sometimes, so i don't think dry is for me. They are annual only on the slips, so I'm out.
