Tuna Talk

You Bamfield guys seem to be somewhat "elitist" and "snooty" :p........it's a perception that is spoken of widely. I read it on a bathroom wall in the travel information center right at the "T" as you turn to go into Ukie or Tofino. :D ;)

Are you talking east side or west side.

You'd best be ******' joking Scotty!

Try the place and then you'll know!!! It isn't Kelowna - or Tofu...

But if you can give up your creature comforts and spas for just a day or two... LOL.

Sorry no strip malls or the brainless sluts associated but if you've got it together the marine station brings in all kinds of beautiful women (with brains that aren't just here to be part of the scene) so.... Ya....

Not Kelowna!!! LOL. Or Whistler... Or Tofino... But sorta the real west coast...

Without spas. Or pink t-shirts...

Tough to say if you've never been! HAHAHA

Pippen....

See you one of these years. Easy for you guys to fish outta there and still make the weigh in!

Relax Rabbi.

Pippen's only kidding.

@ Kelly........ Bamfield is at least an extra 1.5 hr run each way from Tofino so having our own get together in Tofino and meeting up with you guys in the canyons makes a lot of sense for Birdsnest, myself and the other Albie heads in our area.

I just meant if it was a week long show then an hour on either side wouldn't hurt but ya doing it daily would suck.

Finished Business, I just watched all your videos in your Youtube account: the dolphins, the triple header, the filleting ... Excellent videos! Great job on the head cam view. It is always a hassle to take the time to film, edit and upload but it was worth it. I have not yet been tuna fishing and I am hoping that next year will the season. My boat is similar to yours and you make it look easy. Thanks for posting the videos!

Here is a couple of links for making up handlines. Mine are very similar to these and they work great!! I run them off the two rear cleats of the boat and they add to the fun and excitement for sure. It is a way to get two extra lines in the water as well if you don't have enough rod holders. These can work really well and one trip this year they accounted for around half the fish caught.

So do you run 'em back at 100' or do you run 'em shorter? Also, are you the one who mentioned some type of horn arrangement for the hand lines - E.g. a horn that would beep when the line was hit?

This is something I thought about as well. What about using a bar bell? (the bells used when bar fishing the Fraser). It may make a little tinging noise as you cruised but when a fish hits I bet it would make a good ruckus. Or maybe a piece of orange surveyors tape that is attached to the bungee on the handline, when the fish bites, the bungee stretches and the orange tape breaks...fish on!

Just some things I thought about so that you don't miss a fish on the handline (pretty sure we dragged one for a few mins at least unnoticed)

If I recall mine are around 45' with a 10' leader makes them 55' back. The lures sit nice in that narrow smooth spot between the prop wash and the wake. I don't know if this matters but that's where they sit rigged off the rear cleats. I am looking into some kind of indicator for next year because you really have to keep your eye out for them. Like FB said if your not paying attention you could have one on for a while before you notice it.

The bungee usually is stretched out and the line is tight and down on quite an angle when you look at it so it's easy to tell when you have a fish on.

It's pretty fun pulling them in hand over hand then winging then in the boat, they seem easy to use might as well do it.
