Trollmaster Pro Remote Throttle Only

does any one know if trollmaster is still in operating or have they gone out of business?
I spoke with this guy in Oct. Looking for the wired version of Trollmaster3. They have none in Delta but will ship one from the plant in Virginia Screenshot_20241221_163627_Gmail.jpg

I also spoke with rep from CMP. wireless remote only are now available but they ain’t cheap. $140 USD . hopefully it stops the “ gibberish” readout issues. haven’t ordered one because mine still kinda works. just trying to be proactive in case it craps the bed, which i feel it may do at anytime.

I heard the same thing from SH and i agree. SH got me the wired version a few years ago but it went with the last boat. I am going to buy the wired one again as it worked awesome

Yep they are basically a 100 percent failure rate. So much that trollmaster is working on a new model. At least that's what they said the last I spoke with them. They still build the wired version, however none of the Canadian distribution warehouses order the wired model anymore.

So I was thinking about doing this on my boat for next season but I recently found out that the 25HP merc pro kicker now supports smartcraft which I am hoping will then also allow troll mode to be run through a smartcraft gauge, screen or phone. Anybody have this setup on there boat does it work?

to be fair mine still works; it’s just janky as all get out. the remote only likes fresh, fresh batteries, and even then i usually have to stop at multiple times per day and pull the back cover off ( and not lose the small screws) and twist the batteries, or remove the batteries and reinstall them right back in place to get rid of the chinese gibberish.

hasn’t been much of an issue for me lately as i mostly just jig, but frustrating nonetheless.

Too bad. The wired version has been completely reliable for me. Can't imagine not having that degree of control anymore.

Yeah it really is too bad. I believe the company cares and wants to fix the problem. (With the wireless one). However getting the stuff on the dealer side is tough. I can get them brought in but it's a special order and I'll have to wait until the warehouse does its annual order. Otherwise the cost go's up. Shipping and all of that.

Your right about the functionality though. Once you get dialed with one it's hard to go without it.

I don't know if I won the lottery or if you guys abuse your gear but I have no issues with my remote control. It indicates "low battery" much too soon and I run the same batteries for several more days before I actually need to change them but other then that - flawless operation for probably 5 years now!?

I bring my remote in to my house after every use to keep it away from moisture salt etc. i start the day with fresh batteries. two hours in it starts giving me grief. rest of the trip i’m taking out the batteries and jockeying them around. this will work for about an hour before it craps out again.
you must have accidently bought the display model prototype not made in china.

it’s a pos

I have a pro 3 which I’ve been using for about 6 years. The remote gobbles batteries like crazy but other than that works pretty well. I have mounted the control unit in the bilge compartment so it’s out of the weather but the air is damp in there which doesn’t seem to be a problem. I’d say go for it.

Anyone notice this is a 2016 post 🤔

Just finished the install of a wired version of Trollmaster - the biggest challenge was designing a way to effectively mount the controller unit at my rear helm. I wish they had some mounting screw holes built into the controller body - would have made it much easier.

Complaining aside - I came up with simple solution to epoxy the controller body to a mounting plate and then constructed a bracket to mount to the boat. After that install was fairly easy, and when I powered up the system when tested worked flawlessly. Can't wait to get it on the water and put it to the real test.

Will grab some pics and post later
