How bad is the road to tow a 18 foot boat into Bamfield? Is it ok if a guy just takes their time and takes it easy? Or is it hell either way? How many kilometers of logging road?

Go slow and you'll be fine. It takes about 2 hours. Make sure your trailer and truck are in good shape. It's worth the haul.:D

Just came back , road is in great shape , recently graded

I believe its 80-90 kms of unpaved.

I've towed the boat in once, about 15 years ago, and will never do it again. Running the inlet is just way easier (but keep your eyes open).

unless you need your vehicle...leave it in Port and cruise up the inlet avoiding the dust, rocks, potholes and washboard.
1 hr by boat, 2 plus hrs by road.

to add:
Usually take the first am ferry, then drive to P.A.
Take the boat as empty as possible to decrease the tow weight over the hill.

Fill up with Marked Gas at PetroCan across from Clutesi.

We typically launch in P.A., run the boat up the Canal, park the traier in the free parking field, and the other guys drive the truck to Bamfield. Just over an hour in the boat, a little longer in on the road (without the boat/trailer) Without the trailer, its an easy drive.

Other times, we've left both the truck and trailer in the field. Haven't had a problem so far, although my truck/trailer is pretty beat up looking to begin with...

Drove up there when I was a newbey..never in my life again.Did get back to Port when the #1 powerplant died but the wind and water back at 5 knots was great...even got a suntan and a buzz[8D]

Run the inlet, I hate arriving and having what was a nice clean boat now with a 1/4 inch of dust inside and out. Did the road once, never again.

What alot of folks have posted. Run the canal. Less than half the time and you save your equipment from being beat up.

this road can be busy at times for the logging trucks, industrial trucks, and dump trucks. I was on this road a while ago, pretty busy for big trucks. Enjoy the trip!

I was told it was better to trailer in from PA. I have a smaller boat..15ft hourston. Would you guys still recommend boating the inlet from PA or China Creek?? I heard it can get pretty snottty in the inlet??

Get an early start. She blows in the afternoon. Coming home can be hell sometimes but even in your boat if you take your time you can make it in. I haven't seen anything bigger than about 3-4 fters at the worst (some may have seen worse). I had a 16.5 ft Cope and we made her back many a time.

Something to consider is your marine insurance. I remember getting a floater for the canal on top of my general insurance due to all the debris etc. that is encountered there. Look into it before heading out.

I have been going to bamfield for a few years and I always tow my boat (17 ft) in. No big deal , leave boat cover on and when you get to town the campground centenial has a hose to give your boat a quick rinse. I take my time and it usually takes 2-2 1/2 hrs. This way I have all my **** together ( peace of mind) and ps a trick someone taught me was to get an old piece of carpet as long as back of your vehicle and long enough to drag the ground a little, cut a few holes and zap strap to bumper , this will save your gel coat if worried about it

Thanks for the advice. Still not sure what I'm gonna do. I'm not goin till August so I got some time to decide.

It can get alot snottier around Bamfield if your worried about the size of your boat just camp at China Creek and fish there late Aug.

I was on the road as far as Museum Main earlier today and it was absolutely brutal.Nothing but washboard and blinding dust.I'm going back to China Creek on Friday and I had been thinking of towing to and launching from there but there's no way that I'll tow my boat on that road in the condition it was in today.

I have towed on that road a number of times over the years. The best times were lousy and the worst were worse.
One time years ago when i went into the marine store in Qualicum to get a replacement for a bearing buddy the owner said ......hell don't buy one! Just walk the last half mile of road ditch going to China creek, they are laying all over the place[8D]
The only good part was when i used to back the boat into a roadside lake near Bamfield and clean the salt off the motors and trailer:D

A liar will assume you are lying

If you have a motor that works on your boat you are insane to do anything but run it here.

Not that I would know anything about it...

Gimee the gaff!!!

2 years in a row trailered to B.f. had problems with carbs and throttle linkage. No problems with running the inlet.
