Heading to Tofino next weekend for a few days and was wondering if anyone has been out lately and can offer a suggestion or two. I've heard that offshore is where to be right now?? I am hopeful to get into some coho on the fly one of the days but haven't heard of any inside yet.

thanks!

Thanks Jay

I'll be seeing you Friday. Megan has a few items put aside for me.

Was in Tofino from Aug. 8-15 fished 3 1/2 days, first afternoon went to three humps for an afternoon bite and managed to boat about ten fish biggest about 18 lbs, Coyote 4" glo and silver 88' down, hits on #602 spoon, baitrix. 120' Mon.11th fished Heisson, fished from 7am til 1pm, released 14lb spring,7lb wild coho, kept another 18lb spring. 151' 127' 66' were all good. 5" nasty boy,glo silver coyote, anchovies.boated about 15 fish. Afternoon of the 11th went to three humps in the fog,6pm till 9pm boated 7 fish lost a twenty at the boat, most action on anchovy green head green flasher 55', and glo silver coyote,Tues 12th back to Heisson,7am till noon, boated 20 fish kept 2 hatchery ho 6 and 9 lbs,got a nice ling down at 40' in 173' on anchovy,602 tomic spoon 5", glo silver coyote 66' 55' , rained all morning. Wed. 13th back to Hiesson, never touched a fish all morning. saw a few other boats get a few small shakers. Oh yeh! dont forget about the dogfish, we boated about twenty of them each day!!!! all in all it was a good trip burned about a $100 a day on fuel, had lots of action all day long, the seas were flat, the sun was out,and the fog would roll in and out!Sure woud like to know if there are any big springs heading down yet! trying to put together a trip for the Sept. long, hoping that more (bigger) fish are in. Also had my fourth crab pot stolen.

Three days bucktailing...Zero Coho...9th, 10th & 11th. Fished in inshore area covering most of Bartlett, BS Pass, Burgess, Tibbs Blunden, Coomes Bank, Wilf Rocks, Monk rocks. Did not see a Coho!
Outside is a different story, in 4hrs downrigging, we released 8 and kept 4. Largest 27Lb

Best thing I saw in those three days was a school, gang, flock, swarm..what do you call 55 Sea Otters in a group anyway?
Just inside BS Pass, quite an amazing sight

The most common collective noun for sea otters is raft. I too was skunked in most of those places July 19-22 until heading offshore from Ukee.

Talked to a co-worker of mine last night who's been there since Friday. He described the fishing as bad. They have caught some Coho and a few small springs (mostly 8-12lbs). He said there are swarms of dog fish out there and they have quit using bait and switched to hootchies and spoons. He says that very few 20lb+ fish coming in and that a 15-18lber right now is a good fish.

Has anyone heard any reports of bigger springs moving down the island?
