The New Adventure Begins!

Man, long day. Got her around the corner to Burrard and in her temp slip. I'm already using the bow thruster way too much. What a handy gadget that thing is. Wife and kids cane down for a takeout lunch. They're all pretty jacked about it. Spent the morning reading manuals and going over the systems. Then spent the afternoon removing a truck load of cushions and seat bases. I was back and forth picking up my kid from a class at Granville Island so didn't get as much done as I wanted. I did manage to get some of the fishing gear down there. The mounts and plugs work! So I can technically now go for a fish. Only issue Im having is finding space for all my crap. I know, I know, cry me a river, Justin. But there is so little storage on this thing compared to the ex. My tub of spare Scotty Parts and bucket of cleaning supplies are already getting the boot. I can see this being much more like a camping setup in terms of food prep and storage. I can also see the first few projects coming my way. I need a good stainless fabricator to build some storage racks and rails. Also need to get an auto pilot going ASAP. I'm totally overwhelmed but it was a great start. Pretty awesome. Especially as we move into fall the rain cover and light you have looks amazing. Having so much space helps for the kids, we kicked them into the cuddy last night when we were at the end of our patience.

Just to mess with your todo list, I found an affordable night vision, which could come in handy as the days get shorter! No panic on the autopilot, I’m sure you will have lots of friends wanting to go out with you and Lings aren’t the fighters these guys are

Packing light sure helps with fuel economy, a smarter mariner than me said every time you leave the boat take two bags off for every one you bring on. Reminds me as I still have my tuna gear in the cuddy, yet didn’t go for them at all this year.

I need to start a Scotty bin in my garage, and go from a large halibut rubber maid to a small tackle bag that easily goes on and off the boat.

Enjoy the first family and first fishing trip, try not to combine them like I would ;)

Looks spacious and open 360 views..
Finally now I know who were specifically
Harassing when looking for
Rain City.. 😆
Nice ride. Where's the chicken ?

How long until you take the cut out tool to that bench seat in the back and install a fish box under the seat portion. 😁
Can't, i's hollow and the motors are under there. It slides forward for them to tilt up out of the water. "Bonus space"

I'm liking the mounted cooler/bait table idea so far.

How’s the ride? What you cruising at? Awesome looking set up think that would be a really nice boat to camp and fish on. Hard for me to judge from photos and videos but looks like it’s not to big and just big enough for a family of 4 to be nice and comfortable. Do you think you could trailer that boat on the daily and easily launch it? It’s light for its size, thats why I asked about the ride quality. I’m curious to see the next size down in the line

I was worried about how light it was as well in terms of the ride. But it rides heavy, in a good way. It's slices way better than the commander, but I imagine most boats would. It's also way less tender than I thought it would be. I was shocked to find that people moving about didn't affect the ride that much. There is a ton of space, but there also isn't. There isn't enough room for people to pass each other in the walkway which sucks. There also isn't a lot of storage. But having the head and two full berths is an absolute game changer. And really makes up for those other compromises. And I can also confirm that the side door is as awesome as I thought it would be for the kids. They are already running up and down the large side walkaround platform and through the door. The rails are nice and high and I didn't feel it was unsafe for them to do so.

24 knots at 4200-4400 rpm depending on conditions burning between 54-60 LPH

31 knots WOT at 5700 rpm burning 110-120 LPH

Slowest planing speed is 18 knots at about 3200 rpm burning 42 LPH

I'm already wondering about prop changes because I'd like to be able to get the rpms up a little higher. Or maybe not?

Look up the specs for your outboard, is 5700 rpm in the optimum range? Seems like it to me, but go with what the factory says.

My inclination would be to get that slowest planing speed lower, via motor trim, tabs, hydrofoil, four blade prop, weight distribution changes.

nice! i would do white leather on the couch and all the cushions. prop and planing speed/fuel burn look good - wouldnt touch the propulsion.
getting my autopilot figured out too. now i have too many screens in the 18 footer since i added a triton2 and i think im finally out of physical real estate to put more displays in. maybe foldable marine displays will be the next new thing.

3D Hologram

And yes the cushions need a rework. They didn't stand a chance against the sun in there.

WOT @ 5700rpm seems bang on for most outboards. Yamaha 150 is between 5000-6000rpm @ WOT. What type of props / pitch? Doubtful that you can do much better unless the existing props have really high slip. I assume mounting height is good - nice clean flow under the anti-cav plates?

Anyway, I wouldn't spend $2k on new props for minimal gains. The only case where you might want to run lower pitch props is if you tested it empty and you plan on seriously loading it up with weight - or if you want to try chasing fuel economy / speed (maybe a set of Enertia Ecos).

Replaced the propane regulator today and added a tee for the bbq line. No little bottles for this guy. Also added some 1/2" starboard backing behind the Scotty side mounts. Still qute a bit of flex outward but at least I'm less worried about spider cracking at the bolts now. Got my new compact tool kit started and found a bit of space for tackle. Filled her up with fuel and I'm ready for a first overnighter tomorrow. I also tested the fancy outside lights just now. Pretty slick...
