Dropped by the Cove today to check out how the rebuilding is going since the fire. Looks like it's well under way.

Right on. Went there for the first time 36 years ago now when i was 16 and just got my licence and a tinny with a 10hp motor. Drove all the way from Maple Ridge on my own at 16 to go try my luck fishing there. Read about the North Island in Rodderick Haig Brown books growing up.
Gordie gave me a lot of salmon fishing tips when i would stay there. I think he's one of the fastest trollers ive ever seen lol but he knew how to catch them. Have been back quite a few times over the years since then and have brought friends and family there too. Was very sad to see the damage from the fire when it happened. Now that I live close by its a lot easier for me to pop in from time to time.

Like many of you, I first went to TC more than 35 years ago, and was dismayed to see the destruction of the fire. I am amazed and impressed by the determination and drive of the 80 year olds who own the resort and those who operate the Whale Interpretive Centre and have led the rebuild. Legendary.

I'm thinking that as many of us who can should show up this summer and thank them for their commitment - renting a cabin or moorage, camping, buying a meal or a beer.

remember the first time i was there. late eighties. we camped in the area which is now a parking lot.rabbits all over the place. we set out in a 16’ lund with a 9.9 Johnson as the main. seems like suicide venturing out into Johnstone straight in a craft that small now. tried for days for halibut with no luck

Spoke with Mary Borrowman today at the Outdoor Dhoq in Vancouver today, her and Jim started Stubbs Island Whale watching way back when.

She said they are hoping to have restaurants open for May 1st and the Whale Interpretive Center open for June 1st of all goes to plan
