When I mounted these Folbes on the boat it really wasn't to make my</u> fishing easier. The actual reason was very simple. Every year the kids come down, want to go fishing, and beat the bejabbers out of my rods trying to get them out of the holders, plus they are so slow that they usually lose the fish. Now they will have a better chance of getting to the fish quickly and not beat up my rods. The bonus is that I actually really like the quick release they provide.

At the beginning of winter I switched over to three Folbe quick release rod holders on my three downriggers. I love them They are extremely smooth when releasing the rod from the holder. I've fished on a buddies boat that has the Scotty version of the quick release. In my opinion, the Scotty version is not nearly as smooth on the release as the Folbe's.
