Sseine opening Port Alberni

Had a 10 day reservation ,,going to cancil

Seine and gill net for 8 days ,,starting today ,, just going for 2 days cuz promised the 4 yr old grandson. Thank very much DFO.

Still can't quite figure out when would be the best time and where to fish with all these comm. openings. eman

The way I see it..Gillnets open 2pm today for 1 week ..or until they hit 90,000.......Scoopers open 10am sat.till july 15th OR until they get their 120,000

I did not fish today but drove by the cleaning table at 9.20 am and there was not a sole at it.... sad.

My buddy's were among 200 boats this morning and only saw 2 netted...wow

Flashback to saturday and sunday, BEFORE the commercial siene and gill net opening there was a line-up at the cleaning station.
Monday not a fish to be caught.
Since Check 6 had a special on port albernie about the abundance of sockey about 2 weeks ago, maybe someone has some contact and they can have them come up and do another news flash..

Port Alberni after the commercial fleet.

Anyone have any contacts?

Wheres the Chamber of Commerce? Wheres the Business Assoc? Wheres the Sports Guides. Does no one speak for the Sports fishing Industry down there? Why does the DFO, Aboriginal and the Commies just run over the Sports Fishery. I know it's like being in a fish bowl down there but it just upsets me that it's becoming normal procedure. It seems to me that Port Alberni would be the best Area to start pushing back against this unlevel playing field. Who's at the table representing the sports sector and why are the letting this crap happen. Can't wait to see the openings before the Derby this year.;) eman

I have to be honest here, I don't see the problem. The rec sector negotiated to get the lions share of the springs (which they get, as the west coast trollers were just cut off at the knees) and 5% of the sockeye. So now that these allocations are being adhered to what's with all the bitching?

All the bitching is about how ****** of a economy port alberni has and fishing/tourism is one of the few things that still brings money into this town, when you have hundreds of thousands of people coming to port alberni to fish when the sockeye are coming threw and spending money on tackle, food, gas, RV/Camp grounds it's a good thing for everyone.

When the commercials come in and decimate the run after escapement has been hit and leaves next to nothing people read the reports or hear from their friends that the fishing is **** so go somewhere else that money isn't spent in port alberni.

When the commercials come and scoop everything up next to none of the money they are making goes into the community.

You may say the sports rec gets the lion share of the springs but the last couple of years has been dismal to say the least compared historically and it always seems the commercials get that grand opening for 6,000+ fish right at the harbor every year before the labor day weekend and fishing completely sucks for the derby, it's not rocket science to hold off the seiners and gillnets for three days until after all the events and fishing is over.

Fish report

so , fished outta Creek Marina this morning ,had a chat with a few workers there , I truly feel sorry for the owners of the place ,
what a disaster ,Commercial Gillers in full force last night ,ALOT ... seen very few boats at Nahmint today , which was on fire 2 weeks ago ,and arround 200
boats all over Cous Creek , i guess thats where a small pocket of fish were left , We were extremely lucky ta get 6 outta 8 in the boat ,
most boats did not look very amused ,spirits seemed VERY low at there docks afterwards , ..who can blame them , plenty of fish for all , to almost 0 ,

the worst part about , the gillnetters were in full swing all over the pill point area today , right in the prime areas of our rec summer chinooks , completely discusted , you could barely get ur boat through there around noon ,

i did get our lines down for a hour for the tide change , we did hit 4 fish , 3 to the boat , all released , 8 -10 lbs , do these smaller springs not get netted as well ? i have a hard time believing they dont ,seena seiner there too ??? not the commy's fault fellas , the idiots that created this disaster ,DFO ?? again...

anyways , if ur looking to put some fish in freesers outta these areas , dont waste ur time , its UGLY man...

On a better note , The outter sound ,swale and most popular bank areas were great for alot of guys at our docks today
, this may be an option..

anyways , hope this helps

ps , we still had fun though,,,

later

Again you are getting your negotiated share of the pie. It is not the commercials fault. Believe it or not I feel for the coastal communities that have had the crap kicked out of them, but that still doesn'g give you the right to try and redistribute fish as you see fit. You want to fix the problem then have the sfab sit with commies and work out dates and times that work for all. Perhaps you need to slow down the rec fishery in the beginning so there is more allocation for the dates that work for you.

As for the commercial troll fleet they got shut down after only taking 50% of their allocation because they caught their SHARE of Vancouver Island springs that are being saved for the rec sector.

so let me get something straight here...

according to my knowledge:

the rec sector has taken approx 25,000 pieces of sockeye in Alberni to date
the commercial guys are going out for 300,000 +
and the aboriginal guys get 33% of the run estimate, so they are techinally "allowed" about 400,000 fish this year...

you add that up and tell me what 1+1 is fish4all?!?!

does that slice of the pie seem fair to you jackass?

well there banger if you consider that the sfab negotiated for 5% of the sockeye allocation so they can have priority access over the springs, then lets see 400,000 * .05 = 20,000 so based on those numbers no it is not fair, the sports sector should have been shut down by now..

Does this pi$$ some of you off... sure it does but hey those are the facts.
