Squid Fishing

I fished Becher yesterday morning and worked the shallower water (<100'). Saw quite a few squid-like marks, but didn't drop the squid jig down. Fish were being caught on white hoochies, too. That said, the one fish my buddy kept had herring in its mouth. I'm pretty curious, though, as I've caught them in Becher in May a time or two in years past.
Well.. get back out there and drop a squid jig and report back.

Maybe a stupid question but are you allowed more than one umbrella hook on a squid jig? I know for herring jigs there are multiple but formsquid I don’t know if you can put two or even three on the same line??

Yes. You can fish them just like herring. Used to see people using herring rakes when the schools would come into Cowichan Bay. We never used umbrella rigs, just a half dozen treble hooks tied on the line and cast through the school.

Did a full recon squid mission in the Harbour last night in ukee. Water color is a bit off and didn't see any squid.

Whatever you do don't try putting one on a 9 weight fly rod with dry fly line and a corky strike indicator on slack tide. You won't have any fun at all. 😉

It was getting late, everybody went home when I got mine reeling up my first rod and she took it near the surface, got it in the boat and the same thing happened on the other side. So yeah.
