Fished for several hours on Sunday 4-5 miles offshore between Church Rock and Aldridge in 590 feet of water. Used bait at 35 and 47 feet on the downrigger. Landed one nice 14 pound coho at 47 feet and far too many shakers.

Also dragged a bucktail along on my flyrod for the entire day but never had any hits. Has anyone ever connected with a bucktail in the general area? Am I completely wasting my time?

Mad Dog
Steve Lit it up on halis coho were okay on Sunday.
Saturday out there was awsome for halis we got 8 biggest 45 pounds. I'm thinking of giving constance a try give me call and maybe we'll go. get my # from steve.

I have in the past but i tried for two hours in the same area as you on Sunday between 3:30 to 5:30 with no luck either.I usually wait til i see some evidence of action on the surface.

Sounds good Codfish! The currents are crap until the end of the month. Maybe the weather will hold?

We tryed for Coho for 4 hrs this morning thinking it would be as good as last week, all over from the Bluffs to Church, 550- 600' mark, not a rod touched on choves and spoons.
No Feed, No Birds, No Wind and not even a shaker? Zip on the Sounder all Morning. Great day for a boat ride! Boat is now home to do some Prawning in Mill Bay.

Hey Wolf,

I fished the estuary last year with modest results, but I was wondering about targeting them in the salt. I know they might be getting a little dark by then, but I'm not really looking for anything for the freezer, just a last couple of fish on the line before the boat gets pulled.

Was out in Juan De Fuca today. Lost 1 coho(?) at the surface, landed 1 small (4 lb) wild coho,1 strike and a 10 lb chum. Generally pretty slow. Talked to 1 other guy who also got a chum at 130'. I got mine at 120' with a white hootchy in front of Becher Bay in 450' of water.
Maybe you don't need to go to all the way to Browns Bay to fish chum. A little bit of effort might result in better catches of them right here in our local waters.:)

Well thats what I was thinking, with the large number of chum that must be moving through the area there has to be some oppertunity there. I think I'm gonna head out tomorrow evening and see what i can find, anybody have any suggestions for gear?

I've done well on them with hootchies and spoons, usually glows and greens.

well I was off secretary this afternoon and there is a huge amount of fish jumping in the area. I can only guess they are chum waiting for rain to head up sooke river.

No chum biting but I got a 17lb coho and 2 8lb springs fishing deep.

Salmon fishing is still GOOD off of Sooke. The coho fishing is not bad right now with people being allowed 1 wild and 3 hatchery</u>.

i heard it was 1 wild and 1 hatchery

I'm pretty sure the harbour mouth and the harbour itself is closed as for retention:

quote:20-3 to 20-7, the daily limit is four (4) coho, only one (1) of which may be wild effective October 1 to December 31, 2006.

Sooke is area 20-5

Yes you can fish in the harbour and basin, there is rules in force thou for all salmon, but for springs
Subareas 20-6 and 20-7: Sooke Inlet, Sooke Harbour and Sooke Basin, northerly of a line from Muir Point to Possession Point, non-retention of chinook is in effect August 1 to October 15.

Saturday Oct7/06. Great day on the water today out Sooke way. Flat calm and warm, with a little fog thrown in. We picked up an 8lbs Coho(wild), 10lbs Spring and an 11lbs Chum. Plus 4 nice 8'' Dungeness in the trap on the way back in.
The fish were caught out in 500' water off of the Harbour mouth between 70 and 120' on the downrigger.
Hopefully back out Monday
